BtownVolvo
You watching the TX gubernatorial debate tonight? http://www.texastribune.org/2014/09/30/final-debate-showdown-looms-dallas/ Not like she has a chance, but I'm sure she will be the more rational one in the debate. I just want Ann Richards back... /derail
Piston Slapper
Problem is that the current political parties have worked together to rig the system so that they're an integral part of it. Between that, the electoral college and the fact that 99% of the time election results follow donation results... we're screwed.
ErikS
Meh, its only the Republican's waiting in line for a bump of Koch.
Commander Riker
People are dependent on the left vs right paradigm. People want to simply be apart of a group that is against a group who is against their group. Like football. I agree with matt sk8 There is much greed in the country... and the greedy mawfuckas have figured these systems out before anyone else.

Zappo
A better question would be, what would happen if money was removed from politics? Not just in campaigns, but in everything. Base salary, that is all. No retirement, no insider trading info, etc. Another would be term limits for congress.

BtownVolvo
Ok just got my early voting ballot. 2 things. The "Straight Party" section needs to go...the fuck...away. Also, it would be even more awesome if they didn't list the candidate's party affiliation next to their name for ALL offices. That would be a realistic change that might force people to actually research who they're voting for.
Fudge_Brownie
I see your point, but I think you might be overlooking that candidate's affiliated party might have power over them. A vote for a Republican or Democratic Senator who aligns perfectly with your goals might be handicapped by their party's push to accomplish the opposite. Matty Moo
The entire system is fucked. Not fucked like North Korea, but still fucked regardless. Your average American is an idiot also, enough so that we have a few controlled media outlets that will appeal to the vast majority of them. These people align themselves with whatever group appeals to them but fails to realize that all of them are crooked. They're only shown what they need to be shown and they believe all of it. Most of what is aired is just smoke and mirrors/diversion tactics. Let's keep people fired up about religion, abortion and other touchy emotional subjects so that they won't even bother looking for what is really happening. The two-party system promotes that, it's a team thing and it keeps people divided. People that are divided will only worry about the other side, not issues that really have a bearing on EVERYBODY as a whole.
