Maintenance Sections

Is it not weird that the maintenance sections are split by year? Especially the 98/99 split. I'm guessing this has to do with the electronic throttle module, but why is that so important that we split the 850/x70 into two sections when they share so much? I propose that the sections be divided by platform.

P80 (850/x70)

P1 (s40/v40)

P2 (s80/v70/s60)

P3 (i don't know)

I have a 1999 v70, but I should post in the 99- forum which includes mostly P2 and P1 cars instead of the -98 forum which is mostly 850s?

Does this proposal make more sense to anyone else?

You're new. We get why this doesn't make sense to you.

There is sufficient difference between the two model years even though they're from the same platform that we differentiate between them. Specifically because the commonality between the 850 and the 98 S70 is greater in the components that matter most.

Yes they divide the sections in a fashion similar to what you propose at Swedespeed. But Swedespeed is a very different forum from Volvospeed.

You need to learn your car and then figure out which components and issues relate to a 98/850 focus and which problems relate to a 99+ focus and post accordingly.

I see. And I know there are a lot of engine related differences besides just the electronic throttle module. So, for example, if I have a question regarding suspension repairs, would it be better to just post it in the -98 forum?

I actually agree with OP because of how much overlap there is between -98 and 99/00. Yes, there are differences (ignition system, throttle, vac lines, etc) but much of the troubleshooting and diagnosis for those systems is the same, and that is where is the maintenance forum is most helpful - pinpointing a likely cause of the problem and how to test it.
