EVONCO
Hello everyone! My name is James and I'm new here.I've been thinking about purchasing a used 850 turbo wagon recently and would appreciate any feedback.First off I have to say I love the cars. Stylish, sporty, utility TURBO!!! and simple. But frankly I'm stumped, astonished and confused as to why these cars can be found for so little money??? Even the T5 versions sell for pennies it seems, compared to Audi's, which I have also been looking at.So to those out there who own 850 turbos. What is the story and also...were they manufactured with a manual gear box. There seem to be a lot of autos out there. Thanks -james
JHEIII874T5M
a few had manuals. Far and few in between, but they're pretty sweet. The autos are relatively weak and are prone to fail, so I suggest to flush the transmission fluid promptly if you haven't yet. ToxicLemonade
the secret is to wait until you find the perfect car for you. i was goign to buy an a6 audi 6 speed 2.7 turbo but didnt like the color and it looked like an older person car. then i was dicking around on ebay one day and saw my car, next day it was mine. if you want a manual just wait and hang aournd this site and others, ebay, and auto trader and one will pop up within your price range/miles/color etc. the best deals come to those who wait. soap and bread
i bought my first volvo about 2-3 weeks ago. my family has owned alot of volvos. i just turned 17 january 25th...but ive been in the market for a car for about 1 1/2 years. i looked at everything from audi to jaguar. my parents wanted me to buy a honda or sumthin like my sister...but i wanted sumthin with class. i tested multiple bmws and jags and audi's but i just didnt really like them for sum reason. the bmw was nice...but the maintenence costs were astronomical and i cant afford that. i also tested a Jag XJ6...i didnt like it cuz it had the feel of my grandpas cadilac. then one day wen my moms s60 was in the shop for an oil change and stuff...i asked the dealer if they had any classy cars on the lot(that i can afford). so i went into the back office and got on there computers to search their lot. they just happend to hav a '96 850 GLT...so they pulled it up to the front door for me. the car was just traded in for a new s40. the car wasnt even detail or cleaned in any way due to it only being in the dealers hands for a few hours. anyways...i tested it and bought it that same night. the car was so dirty...like there was mud on the dash and fireworks in the trunk and dirty rims and candy wrappers everywhere...but i still found it far classier than most of the other cars that i tested previously. volvos r mechanically solid too...my car has about 68k miles on it and it is as solid as a rock. i hav had absolutely no problems with it except for a few scratches on the paint...but that doesnt matter. i highly recommend getting a volvo over audi anyday. u get more for yur money with a volvo. i dont kno if i persuaded u in any way to get a volvo...but yeah thats my story...i think u shood buy the 850 wagon u r looking at. u cant go wrong with a volvo. Patience is the key to finding exactly what you want. just read and learn about what you want exactly, next time i will be more careful, im just lucky i got a great car out of the deal. check out any of the High pressure turbos, c70's are great cars, and id definately wait till i came across a manual. actually i demand you wait for a manual! :D

matt1122
They are so cheap because there are so freakin many of them. I see more 850s and S70s on the road every day than ANY other car (except the jeep grand cherokee). The 850 and S70 was made for about 10 years, and they output a high number each year. The result is low resale. Maintenance is also kind of expensive at some times, btw, but no more so than an Audi. Also, with Volvo you don't have to pay for the name or a status symbol. Just the safety and the go.
