I would imagine a fairly sizeable amount of people from the VS/SS crowd will eventually get or want to get one of these. It doesn't take a WHOLE lot to make them border-line SUPERCAR fast. My cousin has had an 07 335i for the last 3-4 years. He's running JB4, downpipes, and some other minor mods and he's putting down 400-450 to the wheels. With an RB turbo upgrade ($3k) and an LSD ($1k) these cars put down north of 500whp. I've been talking to my cousin about possibly buying it off him. So my question would be...for someone coming from owning a 98 S70 T5M and currently an 03 V70 T5, what pros/cons can I expect of owning a BMW? Never owned a BMW or a RWD car for that matter. EDIT: This is the car in question.
caanglin Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 Pro's for that car... seems like most of the modding is done. Con's... it's out of warranty. Then there is the ugly lip kit and hood. Personally I would just get an E36 M3 sedan and slap a supercharger or turbo on it.

Kevin. Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 first question, does it have the original N54 or did they upgrade to a N55? N54's are awesome engines but have issues with the wastegates, and high pressure fuel delivery system (high pressure injectors and fuel pumps). BMW did extend the warranty on those parts to 100k since they are a know failure point. The N54 will make more power than the N55 inherently since it's a true twin turbo vs a single twin scroll turbo. I have seen 450whp done with a tune, intercooler and intake upgrade, downpipe and full exhaust. Maybe compressor upgrade but that is all with stock internals. Aftermarket support is much better with BMW than Volvo and dollar for dollar you will make more power. Handling is also awesome with the E90s, marginally improved with the F30 chassis. BMW's can suffer from VANOS issues as well as cooling system issues once serious upgrades have been done, most of the time these issues are addressed from enthusiasts that upgrade the parts so they will not fail. The E90 335i is a awesome car that will get you going fast with minimal effort. You will enjoy this car more than any Volvo out there, it is a vehicle set up to handle and have power from the factory. You will love it!

Like Chris, I'd Buy an E36 M3. oh, wait.... I did PS: the hood on that red one is ugly as shit
TBM Posted January 25, 2015 Author Report Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks for the feedback guys. It's an 07, so N54. It doesn't have the LSD installed. I was saying an LSD and RB turbos would be all this car needs for some very nice power. The only thing that scares me is that my cousin blew the tranny, but he said that it was his fault as he drove it very stupid. He has a used tranny with low mileage ready to go in.
Black Betty Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 Lots of plastic under the hood, valve's should be cleaned every 25-50K (unless you use meth), waste gate flutter/noise can drive you crazy. Considering that I actually would have bought one, but I dont want to pay insurance on two cars, and I drive 25K a year

No. Everything break, injectors, high pressure pump, turbos and also rust on trunk lid and doors. On top of that, no LSD. Very expensive to make them really fast but easy to take them above 400hp if that´s enough. The wierd thing is that I like them, hard to find powerful newer RWD cars these days.
