Usa-Spec Ipod Issues

Hello all,

Recently installed a USA-SPEC PA11-HON in my '00 S70 w/SC-901. Sound quality is excellent, but having a few other issues. I know a few here have used this unit in a P80. so figured I'd ask...

Main problem is that is "forgets" where it was when the key is turned off for longer than a few minutes. If a short time (such as filling gas tank), radio will come back up to whatever disc it was on and iPod will play where it left off. If left for longer, such as overnight, the radio will start all over and "look" for discs. Will hesitate, saying "no magazine" or "error", then will cause the iPod to temporarily freeze. Will eventually settle on disc 1 and command the iPod to start at the first (alphabetically) album. You can see how this would get old quick, happening every morning (and the iPod is left connected, not removed from the car).

Works fine once "synced", just wish it would stay that way unless I change something (such as disconnecting the iPod). Anyone else experience this?

Thanks,

Joe

P.S. - iPod is a new 5th gen touch, using genuine Apple lightning adapter cable.

I wonder if it's because it's a touch or because of the lightning adapter?

I used mine with a 80gb iPod and an first gen nano, and even an iPhone 3G. While it wouldn't charge the phone, it worked fine and I never had issue of it not finding the "disk"

Have you been having that issue since you installed?

You know I had mine paired with a Harmon Kardon drive and play, so... I'm not sure I'd be much help here...

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, odd thing is, it charges the iPod . Most issues I've read have been related to not charging...

Like I said, used USA-SPEC before and was happy with them. Even this is a good product, just need to figure out this one glitch. Seems to work fine once the initial "amnesia" is over with.

But yes, has had the issue since I installed 2 weeks ago. The unit was bought used, but can't imagine there's much to go bad in there.

Thanks

Joe

Just wanted to update/close this.

Spoke with someone @ USA-SPEC this evening, and he said what mine is doing is normal behavior. He said it is more due to the iPod than the adapter box, because the iPod is going to sleep and therefore is "disconnected" from the unit (hence why it doesn't do it when only off for ~1 hour). He also said it varies by iPod/iPhone model, and even by software version...

I've had the CD-6 ERROR appear. The No Magazine will happen with me too, then immediately switches back to playing after "syncing". When I get an ERROR i hVe to unplug my radion harness & usaspec, then it works.

Makes me wish I got the GROM unit quite frankly.

Thanks for the reply.

I've also wondered if the GROM would be better. Have used USA-SPEC before and had great luck. Only paid $25 for the PA11, couldn't find the GROM for less than $130. If it truly IS an issue with the iPod, not sure it would work any better though...

Tech seemed knowledgeable, but an issue with the iPod "sleeping" makes no sense. Wouldn't it have been asleep when I left the car for nearly an hour also? Came right back up that time, didn't even "wake up", just resumed playing with the screen staying black. Only have issues when the car is left for several hours.

Thanks,

Joe

Mines an ipod touch 3rd gen running whatever the latest firmware.

It seems to leave "dock mode" and thats when the usa-spec will say No Magazine. The USA-Spec works well, its just glitchy. Mine doesnt charge, and i have to turn off my ipod, plug it in, and turn it on to have my ipod recognized. Never heard of people having these issues with Grom.

& i got mine used as well, hence buying it instead of an alternative.

Edit: I also manually have to play & pause. No controls interface through my SC-901.
