Newbie checking in

Just wanted to introduce myself - newbie to the forum but long time v70 owner and now for the first time reclaiming ownership of my car after having been driving for 17 years by my wife (who drove through a chain gate), 1 or 3 nannies (one who destroyed the key fob by slamming it in the door), and my 18 year old son who thinks he is the next Mario Andretti (max acceleration, max braking). All in all - the wagon is in incredible shape considering but now have a long list of repairs and mods waiting. First up is CV boots, then struts/shocks, door lock actuators, realignment of off-center steering wheel, leaking power steering (line, pump, reservoir TBD), new windshield, new headlight. First mod is a rear spoiler add-on (wife and son laughed when it arrived). Lowering springs, 17x7 R wheels next.

Good luck with everything!  Be careful with the mods though, when I first got my volvo it was "oh just a tune and exhaust" and now here I am getting ready to swap in a bigger turbo, and looking for a good water/meth injection kit...it seems once you starting modding, your list gets bigger and bigger haha.

idk how much help I'll be, but feel free to pm me for help with anythibg

cool thanks for the reply - and yes I can see how the mods could be addictive once started. I have a lot of repair work to knock off first. I have Bilstein touring fronts and rears -- any advice while I'm replacing on lowering springs? I'm wanting a compliant ride not race tuned with 1.25 to 1.5 drop. So far I've looked at ipd, h&r, Eibach, vogtland.

I haven't done much suspension work yet, but I personally plan on going with the eibachs coupled with Koni FSD's.  I've heard a lot of good things about this setup, but I've never been in a car with this setup so I can't say for sure.  I don't imagine you'd have any problems with the eibachs, but someone with the bilsteins an some kind of lowering springs may chime in regarding ride quality, wheel rub, etc.

Not sure what year you are dealing with, but look carefully into the CV boots. Cheap ones are crap.
Go for GKN/Loebro

Do it sooner rather than later, or else you'll end up going with junk reman'd / non oem axles.
Take care of the high quality originals and keep on driving.

Thanks - I have a 1998 vV70 GLT 100K miles. My very swedish mechanic was appalled at what he called my "deferred maintenance" program. So I had the cracked outer CV boots replaced today with OE brand ($64.65 x 2) so hoping for another 100K miles on the axles. Also he replaced the multi-rib outer belt ($48.55), EFI coolant temp sensor ($63.79), thermostat ($23.73), pollen filter ($39.98), front disks and rotors ($188 x2). All for the super low labor rate of $890.00. ;) ok call me stupid. But WTF, I'm driving this lead sled for another 25 years. Tomorrow I'm going back for new Bilstein Touring struts and shocks.

Hey guys -

Why am I getting an error message when trying to access certain content on this site -- "You do not have permission to view this content."

I sent email a couple of times to the moderator but no response. What gives?

Give us some examples (links) and we may be better able to explain why.

if I click on the link above and hit (page10.pdf) in the link above, I get access denied. I get it randomly all over this site. Is there some type of access control policy for certain pages based on membership level?

Supporting membership does have its benefits.  I can click through to the PDF but I'm not sure if that's profile related or not.  If you're trying to post in the For Sale section (to even comment) then yes you must be a supporting member to do so.  You should still be able to browse the classifieds though.
