erikv11
What do I need to try out m4.4 conversion on my daily driver 95 T5R auto? FWIW the car currently runs on a stock 96 turbo ECU, when I got the car I swapped in a 96 engine and got rid of EGR. Oh I did SAS delete also, ok irrelevant I know.I know there is a ton of information about this, but it's tough to wade through and it is a simple answer for some of you. So here's my understanding, I want to make sure I have this right:1) Hardware. For the 4.4 ECU, is any 4.4 auto one going to work, from 97 or 98? Still not sure about the AC conversion (aware of the software mod, see below).2) Software. Adjust the 607rev5b tune for my car:- change injector constant to 1 (I know I could get whites and leave this part of the tune alone, but for now my 850 has the stock oranges.),- modify the voltage correction table like this http://m44.wikia.com/wiki/Modified_Vehicles.- to make the bin work with my 95's climate control, I run this little program on the bin (http://www.meditekst.nl/downloads/ACmod.zip).3) Now I flash the bin to the ECU. I have a nice bench setup for this.4) Drop it in and go.Is that it, no baro or temp sensor mods needed, no ECU or other hardware mods, just the software flash right? Piet
That's about it.No hardware mods in the car or ECU needed.Considering things as baro or temp sensor, just turn them the off in the bin with tunerpro. What about the AC conversion are you unsure?Just don't do the hardware AC mod, only the AC software mod.Drop it in and go.You do have to do some reading in the tuner's rejoice topic though if you want to get more out if it. erikv11
I understand this is just flashing, I need to do plenty more reading to be comfortable with tuning.OK the AC conversion I think I get now, thanks. I was hung up that there was some AC-related hardware difference between a 97 and 98 ECU. But I understand that as long as it is a turbo, 4.4 ECU I am good to go.And I just disabled the temp sensor and baro sensor diagnostics. That was definitely a missing link for me, I did not scrutinize the options available in the diagnostics disable.
Piet
Just disable (set to zero) everything under "Diagnostic disables" in tunerpro except for "diagnostics replacement value: intake air temperature" set that one to 20 or something like that. The software AC mod works on every M4.4 by the way Edited June 23, 2015 by Piet
gdog
OP,whites are only slightly larger than the stock orange tops. If you're going to do any significant mods to help engine breathing (and corresponding tuning) i would go straight to greens, assuming you're staying with td04hl series turbos. Whites would only be appropriate if you are planning mild tuning mods (e.g. similar to the old ard orange tune). Piet, et al,I need to do smog cert in my state every two years (49 state, usa). Mine is '96 so they only do OBD2 connection (no tail pipe sniff) plus visual (i guess). Have to do the cert in next few weeks. Was thinking I should be able to pass w/M4.4 ECU but just using stock 607 (auto) bin with following mods:A/C s/w mod (thanks once again Piet!!)re-cal for greensre-cal for S90 MAFdisable following Diags as they are N/A on 96 850: Fuel Tank Pressure, SAS, baro sensor, accelerometer, & IAT.Oh yeah, disable the logging feature too, so normal OBD2 comm works. There is a way to do this and save this state to NV memory, yes?Has anyone tried this? Success or no?Worse case i can throw the whites, stock MAF, and the M4.3 ECU back in temporarily, but rather not hassle with that if un-necessary..Thanks! gdog
Update FYI: Passed smog cert w/M4.4 ecu in there per above adjustments though it wasn't perfectly smooth sailing..Their equipment would not communicate with car's OBD2; guy says we'll have to scan it with the handheld scanner. That seems to work but he notices the readiness monitor has not reset. So then he does a tailpipe sniff test, which passes w/flying colors. Supervisor has to come over and manually over-ride it as a pass since (I'm assuming) because of the readiness test not good.Did some research afterward; apparently it's common for 96-98 volvos to fail the readiness test so I'd say they're aware of the problem and let it go..below table from here:http://www.rlescalambre.com/APPENDIX_J.htmTABLE 1a The EIS Ignores Monitor Readiness Status Make Model YearModelDISPActionBMW1996750iL, 850Ci, 850Csi 12-cylinder engines. Tightmopedman9
Gdog, you can decrease the time to complete the readiness test through TunerPro. 'Trips required for readiness' there are two values, one in the lowerbank and one in the upperbank.
