DDM
Yep I've used extractors, vacuums, brushes, removed covers and cleaned them in a sink. The washcloth does as good a job as any and is simple and relatively easy.
gmsgltr
I would agree 100% even for the tan suede seats...

tuner4life
Haven't been driving this one much lately since the viscous coupling has started making horrible noise. I think the bearings are shot, but with over 225k miles I'll probably just look for lower mileage VC, differential, and axles. I'll post a wanted ad for those parts soon. Slowly gathering all the parts I need for this fall project.. I'm only about 1/4 invested so far.. Still need to gather all of the fuel tank parts, Nivos, brakes, etc..
tuner4life
Prepping for the upcoming project from hell. I put the wagon on stands and absolutely drenched every visible nut/bolt/fastener/fitting in a combination of PB blaster and Fluid film on hopes that it will creep where it needs to go and loosen up some of the corrosion to reduce the headaches.. I literally sprayed 2 full cans of PB and 1 full can of Fluid film on every fastener I could find. Also I sprayed a bunch down inbetween the body and the subframe where I could access through the wheel well. I sprayed a surprising amount in there and only a little bit dripped back out so hopefully it's in there working on de-fusing the subframe from the steel of the car. I'm going to do this a few more times before I start tearing it apart. I literally bought a case of PB Hoping to finish gathering all the parts by the time my work slows down in a few weeks when I can really tackle this. After drenching the rear suspension in PB, I played around with some LEDs that I picked up for the map lights. Big improvement!
quiksilver
The rear subframe will "stick" to the body a bit when dropping it. Couple loving hits with a mallet will free it without issue. Are you dropping the entire subframe, or just hanging it in the air and replacing bits? Might be worthwhile to take a look at the green steel fuel lines running up the passenger side of the car, my sender line got a minuscule hole in it that would make the entire garage smell like eau de Shell 91. I replaced the entire steel section with this 3/8" OD, 5/16" ID nylon line.
tuner4life
The whole thing is coming out, subframe, driveline, exhaust, fuel tank, all of it. The lines are crusty enough, I don't trust their integrity once I start moving things around. I'll be bending my own new fuel and brake lines from front to back as well as every single fuel/emission/etc hose that is inaccessible above the tank. I don't want to deal with this again for a very long time lol. I've already got an intermittent evap code when it gets cold.
Brad850
Wow I just realized I've never seen rear suspension on an AWD. Didn't realize I was looking at a p80 for a second there. I guess it was silly to think you'd have a delta link setup lol. Looks fun
tuner4life
It's definitely 10lbs in a 5lb bag if you know what I mean. I wish they sold FWD saffron Rs here.

Not 100% sure what's involved, but how about swapping to a deltalink setup?

tuner4life
It would be significantly easier and probably cheaper to buy a T-5 and paint it Saffron. I really don't want to come across as complaining. I love this car and the AWD is a nice feature to have especially since this is a daily. This particular part of the project is just more money and labor intensive than most others. I'm sure it'll be worth the work when it's over and back on the road. tuner4life
So let's beat this dead AWD horse some more. In my search to find a good condition low mileage VC, I'm coming up short. I did see a parts diagram at one point for the VC and there is a bearing in the VC that looks to be replaceable. My noise definitely sounds like a bearing that is failing and it makes it at all speeds. My question is can that bearing be changed out relatively easily? I have a press, but am not sure about pulling that whole unit apart. The AWD works fine otherwise. I can definitely tell that it was working over the past winter. We had quite a bit of parking lot fun last winter.. The car has 240k miles, would you re-use the VC with a new bearing, or try to find a lower mile replacement? Blockpartie
Repair what you have. You can be sure that it works and most used replacements are already quite old. Be careful when you remove the rear assembly. Many of the small parts are no longer available new.
tuner4life
Yeah. 10-4 on the being super careful. Been soaking it all in PB every couple of days for the last week and I'm gathering as many parts as I can find before i start. Just getting worried that I'll tear into it and not be able to find some crucial part then I'll be really screwed.
