JaredR1
Hey guys, I've been working on finding a way to get my M66D shipped over here for my 850R project and I just seem to keep running into brick walls. UPS Air Freight, which is what I was planning on using, would have cost me a relatively tolerable $500, but now they tell me they won't do it unless it's a commercial shipment. None of the surface freight companies I contacted were interested, and everything I've found that looks like it would actually work costs like $1,000. Do any of you guys know anything about international shipments of large items? I just find it hard to believe that there isn't a more cost effective way to do this. Or maybe someone with a commercial UPS account who knows how to deal with UPS would like to give me a hand with this UPS Air Freight thing. Any help/suggestions/recommendations would be much appreciated.....because this is the one aspect of this project where I really seem to be getting stuck. Tommy.
I would definitely post up on TB about this too. The Buchka brothers live and work in Sweden/East coast of the US and I believe have helped out in situations like these before.

They both live in L.A. now, but there are quite a few guys who have shipped or imported transmissions, especially M90's.

Ah was not aware. Good catch John. They definitely have relatives and whatnot there. Haven't followed their threads for many years now. Are they still on the boards? They have three build threads on TB they update every so often. 1) The fake racecar 2) the fake street car and 3) the daily driver
JaredR1
Thanks for the tips, guys. I haven't gotten into the RWD cars that much so I wasn't even thinking about the guys who have imported M90s. Guess it's time to create a TB account! matt b
FWIW, I had helped Big Will with his trans. His seller insisted on using FedEx and I assisted with customs clearance and general logistics. This goes back a few years. Check your PM's and like I said: see what the seller can offer. If it's a professional seller, it will go considerably better than an individual who lacks experience with shipping parts, let alone shiping parts overseas. Ol' Dirty Noodle
what country is the gearbox in?
JaredR1
It is in Northern Ireland (UK). It is coming from a junkyard there and they do seem to have experience with shipping parts to the US, but I get the impression they don't do larger items like this very often. They said that they do their international shipping with TNT but that "it would cost as much as a car" to ship it with them and that I should look elsewhere for shipping. Lookup a guy named Carl in Leicester, his eBay store name is a6autospares, overnighted me my gearbox from UK, very reasonable cost for the whole kit. Only problem I see is its not on the UK mainland but he may be able to make arrangements or have it first shipped to him
