About the cam lobes, most bizarre. Only thing that comes to mind is cam lobes not properly hardened? Honda v four motorcycle engines had this issue back in the early 80s IIRC. Lobes would literally grind away with normal driving. Again, aftermarket (poor quality) cam? Wasn't a cheap gasket - but clearly the QC was lacking. I would not have ever thought to look at that before. The machine shop thinks it's most likely lubrication (that is behind cam failure). I'm going to switch to VR1, since these older engines do better with some zinc. With LH2.4 & the (worn) cam spec, my base idle & warmup period was erratic & too low.
