The most depressing thing is when you've kept track of everything you spent and then add up the total cost :(

It's more depressing when you think of the number you would or wouldn't take to sell your terrible terrible financial pile of decisions.  Still, we love these cars, and while I wish I had a FWD V70 sometimes... the AWD is pretty cool.

In the end, it's just not worth it.  I could have bought an E39 M5 at this point.

if you have been properly bitten by the Volvo bug you will forget about how much is spent keeping them alive. Instead you will have an inexplicable inner drive to do whatever it takes to keep everything working as the Volvo creators intended AND whenever possible improve on them.

I know for some this is Volvo blasphemy. Volvo bug immunity happens so it's ok to cover the dash warning lights, turn up the radio to mask the rattles and dare I say it - use non oem Volvo parts.

We are here to support you whatever your take is on your Volvo enthusiasm.

And the scariest thought is that our wives would sell the cars and parts for what we told them they cost.

I knew from the beginning with my R NOT to do this. Because I can't even imagine. Now with the GTI and GLI and even the V70 T5M I keep good excel notes :)

Hmm..

My V70R:

driveshaft and support plate- $125

fender- $35

OE fog lights- $20

rear OE spoiler- $100 (vanity purchase)

viscous coupling-$100

revert to stock intake.. $15 for a Mann filter.

Needs TCV.. (Has Delco going to revert to stock Delco sucks)

total.. $395

doesn't depress me too much.

the red T5 I used to have on the other hand...

It pretty interesting with all the the responses. It is a bug, I went throu the same thing, bust not as extreme with my my old 850R . But once the tranny went, I got rid of it. I wish I never did. But i recently picked up a one owner 96 855R and I actually have no plan to ever modify it. Ive learned my lesson this this time

maybe a beginners list - a mod light stage 0 plan. and you know - maybe a set of sway bars and some nice slotted rotors. a k&n hmm what else... a fresh cooling system or shocks... and if the springs need help...

oh thats right - no mods... well everything should work at the very least. and the fan spray washers are kinda nice.

There is the cost part of fixing, modding and maintaining, which I an loth to add up  for the garaged car. And then when I get it out to drive and have to negotiate the terrible driving where I live, I'm always thinking some dick on a cell phone is going to waste all the time, effort and expense I've put in. Kind of defeats the joy of driving sometimes... Still it's a love affair when the turbo is humming!

I've been mapping out what I want to do, only spend a grand or so thus far with mine. But dang yeah I could buy a pretty nice car for what I'm planning to spend! But we do get attached to these cars...

But I defend myself by saying there is really no newish car out there for $15k that I like anywhere near as much as my C70, so it's all good! That's what I tell myself anyways.

Not to mention who on this board is going to spend $5-8k (average price of car plus mods?) on something else and vow to leave it stock. Granted there are a few "OEM only" guys on this forum, but most of us don't have the desire to leave a car stock. Whatever car is bought, regardless of purchase price, is going to get modified one way or the other by maybe 90% of the people on this forum.

Well, I had a long list, But I think this one puts all of us to shame, mostly with the amount of aftermarket go fast parts you put in your wagon.

PS. That steering rack is mint H, Its way smoother than what ive been dealing with over that last few years

Good luck with that.

No no. Im 100% all in with keeping this one close to oem. Its already got a tune, full 3" exhaust, the suspension and brakes where refreshed right before I purchased it. Its got a nice ride height, handles well, and is very comfortable to drive. Its a great candidate for a nice DD

Oh man. I've done a ton to my car as well. Yes, I've definitely spent enough money to have bought something more commonly regarded as a performance car by this point. But i just love my Volvo. It's different and I enjoy driving it. Maybe I'll come back later and list all I've done to the car. It'd be a lot of typing, though!
