Total cost was under $40. Scraping the old glue is a bit of a pita . I never liked the grey or tan headliner. All black/dark grey interior should look pretty good.

I always worry about what type of glue to use. Last thing you want is all that work sitting on your head. Whats the best stuff to use?

I used about 4 cans of 3M #38808 "headliner adhesive" to do the headliner in my V70R. I just used black headliner material though, not suede which is likely heavier. You spray a few coats on both surfaces and let it tack up for 5-10 minutes, then once you touch them together, you'd better have it right because it will rip the foam off the back of the headliner before it comes loose. I just did small sections at a time and it turned out great. I've used this on other cars in the past and have never had one fall down. There are pics in my build thread.

The key is prep though. I use a large metal wire brush to get rid of the old foam, and painted the cardboard with a sealer primer before applying the glue.

For the life of me I can't understand why they made the headliner and trim up there tan while the rest of the interior is charcoal. It looks much better black.

What do you guys think? I also ordered black visors and will spray the trim pieces.

I'm pretty sure Volvo did not make black visors for 850/x70 cars. Where did you buy yours from? I bought a set many years ago that looked like they would fit. Turns out, they were from a RWD model Volvo and did not fit.

My wagon has light grey (not tan) trim and headliner. I really like the color combo but am considering redoing it in a darker suede. Where did you get the headliner fabric you used for your car? What kind of primer did you use?

Weird.. Mine was charcoal interior with a very tan ceiling..

I got my material from JoAnn Fabrics. They carry black, grey, and tan automotive headliner material in stock. The primer was just cheap grey sealer primer in a rattle can from the parts store, I don't remember what brand. It soaks into the cardboard a bit and seems to give the glue a little bit better adhesion then spraying right onto the cardboard.

Looks very good. Nice work.  I'll be doing my headliner very soon as well.  I chose material from joann's as well, although I must say it won't be as subtle an upgrade.....

Did you also do the sunshade?  I've only done that so far and it came out pretty nice.

You have a space cap for pics and files. 0.08mb is how much you have left. Try shrinking the resolution of some of your older photos to free up space for more.
