Hey guys,

I saw the thread about the heater cores sold by swedish auto lamps.

I didn't really want to create a new thread about them, but the other one was archived..

How are the swedish auto lamps heater cores holding up for you guys? Should I just go with my original plan and go Behr?

never heard of that brand. usually the status quo is to go OEM, but I personally put in a nissens (i think) heater core and have had no problems in the past year.

Whoops, meant swedish car parts...lol

Yea Nissen seems pretty good too.

Buy this one on eBay.  Wash it extremely well before installing as it smells pretty funky (it will still smell even if you clean it, but not as badly).

Yea that's the one I meant...Thanks, if I pick it up, I'll soak the whole thing overnight in dish soap lol.

Did you guys replace the steel hoses/pipes leading down to it too?

The ebay one from that Sweedish Auto Lamps place seems to have good reviews and has held up well for me for the last few months in the R. Just make sure to run it through the dishwasher before installing.

I'll be buying another one from them for the C70 when that time comes.

Yes, you only need the o-rings. My cousin used the Swedish Car Parts heater core in his S70, and it has been good. Just clean it first. We didn't do that before installing it, and it does have a funky smell. It's not awful, but if you can get rid of it, why not?

I agree with changing the o-rings but keep the clips.  I don't know why but some clips are longer and don't work.  Best use the ones that are known to be right.

Another thing- be careful with the plastic block that goes through the firewall- you push too hard you'll break it- it's been in there for a long time and has gotten brittle over the years with heat and cold.  I broke mine ('98 S70) and couldn't source one once and had to run long hoses all the way out without the proper connections for awhile until I could pick up a replacement block.   That's about it- the rest isn't so hard. Just make sure to put a plastic bag down and get ready for a splash onto the floorboard from the heater core when it turns loose.

Plan on replacing the junction box at the firewall with OEM...  I hear they almost always break when changing the heater hoses/ core.  Mine broke when doing the hoses and thankfully my shop had ordered one.
