I agree, we should just put this to bed and move on. Let's talk politics not religion lol

I'd love to agree they aren't related, but people keep telling me we can't separate them completely

It could makes sense to spin off this discussion in to a separate religion thread.

There are no references in any religion to life being on any other planet than Earth, so if it is found - would it prove all religion on Earth wrong?

Pale Blue Dot  was his "sequel" and it is even better.

I think your lack of familiarity with religion is showing.  Mormons hold this as a clear tenet of our faith.  That many worlds were created much like this one with inhabitants just like us. All sons and daughters of God.

I can always show you my invisible dragon. He lives in my garage and he's a miracle you can't disprove.

I need to talk Steve into printing a vinyl sticker set with the name "invisible dragon" so you can properly apply it to your 850.

Eric is the new Kevin.  :)

No, Eric has been this way long before Kevin awakened and realized he should pretend to be an angry, young, progressive, atheist.  We had this debate 4 years ago when Romney was running for President.  This is just a retread.

I have no idea what you're talking about but I'm certain neither do you.

Now who's not versed in all religions? I see you need some thetans released.

There's a difference between religion and a cult based business.

Experts who track cults and hate groups offer seven criteria that identify a cult:

1. Opposing critical thinking

2. Isolating members and penalizing them for leaving

3. Emphasizing special doctrines outside scripture

4. Seeking inappropriate loyalty to their leaders

5. Dishonoring the family unit

6. Crossing Biblical boundaries of behavior (versus sexual purity and personal ownership)

7. Separation from the Church

and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints doesn't punish members for leaving? Ex-communication is extremely common practice

Debating with you is pointless because of your inability for rational thought. Ex-communication is the antithesis of punishing someone for leaving.

Kevin I will reach through the screen and slap you.  Be respectful about my faith.

You have no idea what you're talking about.  Would you be so crass in speaking about a Jew's tallit katan or a Sikh's turban? In each case these are sacred clothing that represent covenants the believer has made with God. It is beyond socially unacceptable to treat such things in the base manner that you are. You also are clearly lacking in your understanding of the symbolic garments that were worn by believers in the Old Testament that represented their covenants.

As for your other comment what Matt said.  There's a big difference between how Scientology is treating Leah Remini and how actual religions approach excommunication.

there is a clear difference between the old Testament (a religious text compiled of writings of many scholars and men) and the writings of Joseph Smith (deciphered his message from God from a hat). Jesus is from Missouri? come on....

I have massive respect for established religions, not so much for cults Alain. I have heard things about Mormonism that make me quiver with anger. You're smarter than this

tell that to the sons and daughters that were ex-communicated. They just want to see their families but their families are too high and mighty in their ivory tower to accept them
