Is it God or someone else. I still i haven't seen proof that God is the creator but I seen how religion has used and abuse their power opposite of their motto/mission. Last time I checked there is no measuring tape for spirituality or inner space... and if we consider that religions were created by man, the implications of abuse within these systems only point to our nature of being manipulative human beings when it comes to our physical survival, security, and procreation. That said, people have been using the "church" since forever to further there own aims under the auspices of divine righteousness. But, if one believes that we are spiritual beings, (whatever that means individually) then these religions are only particular vehicles in which we feel more connected to that element which is greater than us, whether that is Christian-based, or otherwise. So to continue the analogy, if you don't like Fords don't drive one. And don't whine when someday you realize you don't have any wheels for such endeavors. The real problem as I see it, besides some negative human elements, is spiritual vacuity. All those that don't believe in anything related to this are living life missing a connection that is both profound and fulfilling, and it doesn't have to be with a thunder-bolted man sitting on a throne or a heaven filled with virgins. So what's worse... religious fervor or no acknowledgement of a higher power at all? Go out and see something beautiful, do something nice... feel some gratitude. Commander Riker Posted May 11, 2016 Report Share Posted May 11, 2016 I have an issue with the idea that there is a single being responsible for everything we observe. From the furthest away... as we peer into the stars we see more and more... as is with looking smaller and smaller... we continue to make fascinating observations at that small scale. When I dejected this idea that there is an all powerful God... I was 11... and my parents were less than thrilled. What I see is that there is power in everyone... so when there is gatherings of people at a concert, or at a church... there is undeniably an energy that forms there. The problem I have... is that at the gathering of a religious institution, it is beat into people that they are powerless... and all bestowed upon them is from above. Instead of what I feel is within. We're all god, if you want to use that term. Sit and think about it. Is there a deity that is listening to everyone when you cry out? Or ask the ceiling for help? I'm not sure you could find a "Christian" country more scarred by war and overwhelmed by skepticism as a result of its last 100 years of history. Spending every day talking with native French and immigrants of diverse backgrounds was an experience of regular philosophical and spiritual engagement. We have an approach Kevin focused on teaching specific ways to treat others and treat ourselves and how that shapes and broadens choices rather than restricting them. boxpin Posted May 17, 2016 Report Share Posted May 17, 2016 Kevin, I think there is a chip on your shoulder and no matter what is said you will continue to look for anything you can to degrade it. The reality of it is that children are taught to understand God, that he is their Father in Heaven and that he loves them. They learn about Jesus Christ, The Savior, and his role as the Son of God. They learn about the creation, about this earth and why we are here. They learn to understand, love and respect Gods creations and how they play a role in their lives. Of all the things in this world to learn, I want my kids to learn and understand these core principles most of all. Don’t believe me, here is the Primary teaching manual.
