Religulous

Kevin do you really want to debate me on a religion that I have spent a lifetime studying and have served in leadership roles for the last 15 years?

I studied under last century's foremost scholar in our faith. I'm friends with most of the historians who have thoroughly critically analyzed our religious history - warts and all. My cousin is the head of public relations for the Church.  My father and mother were responsible for running three of the 155 different global temples specifically in Chicago, the DR and in Ghana. I've sat in meetings with and exchanged thoughts with several of the current Apostles of the Church. My family history on both sides of my parents goes all the way back to the early days of the Church in1840.

There is nothing you have read about my faith I haven't already read and considered let alone lived in counseling and supporting teenagers and members of all different life experiences.

tell that to the sons and daughters that were ex-communicated. They just want to see their families but their families are too high and mighty in their ivory tower to accept them

Regardless of your interpretation of right and wrong... ex-communication is the antithesis of...

So... your point, regardless of what you think of it... is pointless.

no, because you're much more well spoken that I am and you're also excellent at turning my words against me. I firmly believe that Mormonism is a cult and on that list Mormonism does in fact check a few boxes, specifically #3 given that the book of Mormon is not from the Bible. It was written while a man looked into a hat

Believe what you like but even the Pope and the heads of the Southern Baptist Convention disagree with you - just to name a few.  There may be theological differences but they do not consider one of the fastest growing religions (Mormons) in the world a cult.

A few boxes checked is not all. And "religious text" doesn't have to mean the bible. The issue is when new rules are created by the cult leader. It's not in the original text, but you're required to do it by the group. Now the group is based on a living leader, not a book. To make the argument you're making, I think you'd also have to say christianity, judaism, muslim, and other major religions have cult-like qualities. But the criteria Alain posted is basically "how do we distiguish organized religion from cult".

Turning your words against you? Maybe give a little more thought to it. And it's fairly transparent that you're parroting information from bias sources. In this case, and politically. It's like you read Gawker yesterday, and watched Southpark last week. You need to remember that those sources don't give a fair analysis. In a religious case, I think you might need to skip some of this minor differences and cut down to the core issues. Get straight to it. For example, it seems like you believe the morman religious text was dreamed up by a cult leader. If so, what do you think of the christian bible? Same thing? Or is that the word of god? Or do you believe these religious texts are legitimate but being abused?

The problem is if you don't step up your responses, even a little bit, you're just wasting people's time. E.g. what the fuck does scientology have to do with that reply above?

in reference to a fast growing religion. Just because it's fast growing doesn't mean it's a good thing. Nearly all of Europe sees Scientology for what it truly is, a farce and a business and a cult

So what? Re-read what he posted, and remove the 'fastest growing' bit. Scientology has nothing to do with this.

the Pope won't even acknowledge the rampant sexual abuse in his own church Alain. Plus, how long did it take the church to say that?
