Gage
So since having the 07 SR For awhile now we picked up a new DD, 2002 XC70 got him for 200.00 because the trans kept going into limp mode and then about a week after we got him reverse went out. In the meantime while i was looking for a good auto trans to put back in i thought what better time than now to start on some Other things, After a few weeks and A LOT of trips to the Junkyards i dropped about 400.00 into " Other Things " Were they Needed ..... Not really Buuutttt I'm sure the vets here know me and when have i NOT done Interior Swaps, Also Why not who wants a White Wagon with a SHITTY Beige / Oak Interior So here we go Then i went to the headlights, The guy i got the car from used it for a Escort Vehicle and the front end was in bad shape so i went with a set of S60 lights and then painted the insides white Then Found a Rack and Got a LED Light bar and put them on Now on to Wheels hmmm What do i want to use Still unsure about this but ill figure out Something So i found a "good" auto trans in new york for 550.00 shipped and had it within a few days and got to work Went about 2 days and had the old one out and the "New One" In Yay........ Well just to find out that this one Also had no Reverse, Well FML So after a bit of research and Thinking thing's trough i got my money back from the Auto trans i just got and was on the hunt for a M66. The Goal..... To have a DD/Camping Vehicle Timeline... About 3weeks Wanted to have it done for Carlisle As luck would have it i was well on my way, Or so i thought. I already had the flywheel, Shifter ,cables and pedals I tracked down a good M66 with 30k miles on it from Justin but it had a striped collar sleeve. As to try and keep this on the short side lets just say after i got the trans i ran into just about every problem you can with doing this swap So onto the fun, Ok so Problem number one The rear Motor mount is different from the Auto and the M66 So you Need a rear motor mount from a S/V/R with a M66 Part # 8646206Then i was told that i needed a Non R Clutch, SO Wrong the M56 Main shaft is WAY Smaller than that of the M66 so you DO Need a 04-07ish R ClutchNext on the list was Axles again i was told i need the following, Pass side stock outer mated to a 99-00 awd inner stubshaft this is Correct. For the drivers side i was told the stock outer mated to a 98 fwd inner stubshaft this is INCORRECT you Need the Stock Outer with a 99-00 awd inner, The one i used was from a 99XC Part# P9470932Now on to the Shift cables, i had got a set of M56 cables from a 04s60 and was told these will work, AGAIN WRONG you need a Set from a M66 the length IS Different So that is it for now but ill keep things up to date as they get done

andyb5
Nice work, that's a cool swap! I don't understand the need for the axle shenanigans though - why didn't you just use the axles from an 04-07 R?

With the XC the axles they are Longer Due to the longer control arms, so if i were to use the R Axles they would be too short .... But at the same time if i were to use the Stock XC axles they are some how Too Long Crazy Right

I got the wiring figured out for the pnp you need to tap the blue with yellow stripe to a groung and it will fire up and I also got the reverse lights to work as well, I put a 12v switched to the switch on the transmission and then from there ran it to the lights in the rear and just unhooked them from the rear cem. yes i left the tcu in for now till i get the tune done I have over 1000 miles logged since the swap has been done and I have nothing but good things to report. Over all I'm Happy 7 hours ago, gmsgltr said: AWESOME Thanks :D
