Car rarity

Not really. Total numbers suggest that Volvo produced nearly equal numbers of yellow and black T5-R (estate and saloons combined). Green coloured T5-R were produced the least compared to the other colours. Someone made this chart:

While we are talking rare cars the S70R deserves to be mentioned.

As far as first generation V70 R & V70 R AWD are concerned there are a number of equipment details that give a rough idea of how rare a particular car is. Manual transmission is rarer than automatic transmission; certain paint colours are rare (silver, black, saffron and laserblue are pretty common); certain equipment details are rare... you get the idea.

I believe all 3 are M56 from the factory. I know for Josh and me that's the case and I don't think Gary's car - the one Timo now owns - was swapped either.

The 2000 C70 Coupe that I owned was also factory M56. My 05 S60 T5 was 1 of 72 with the M66, and probably 1 of 1 with 4C suspension.  S90 Limo is 1 of 16 imported into the US.  S60 Challenge is 1 of 3X built.  My bud has a 07 Sonic/Atacama S60R M66 that's probably pretty unique.

Red on tan 850r here. I like to think Greg and I are one of the select few with mint tan R interiors (thanks Adam) in the US. His being nicer of course :glare: I know these aren't as rare as yellows but, I don't see many reds on VS. Curious how many people have them that just don't post much...

That chart is not entirely accurate, I have physically seen a green t5R wagon that was ordered here in Miami. The guy has owned the car since new, ordered from Deel Volvo in 95.

According to vcna projected only 1000 were to be made for the us market

In communication with Mr Johnston years ago that number wasn't reached, it was just under 1000. This was not only verified by by him but he provided at one point a photo of a magazine article about the T-5R which verified also

The chart I linked claims a total of 972 T5-R were delivered to the US. This includes 13 T5-R estates in green, marked for "US Northern".

My understanding of how Volvo would have allocated T5-R models in 1995 is zero. Best guess is that the last few cars, which the green painted models are, could have been ordered by any dealership. In any case the statement of Mr. Johnson is correctly reflected in the chart.

Getting 100% accurate numbers will be nearly impossible. In the 90s Volvo was doing so many things that they kind of forgot to document everything. Or at least put all the information they had into a filing cabinet. Further reading into the T5-R and R in this interesting forum post below (notice how the author collected information, some of the pictures are those of dragosd)

I do if it's not really an R. My car is Nautic Blue with the Leather Oak interior "3980." Technically that's not tan though. What's your interior color code? Everybody prefers charcoal but when it's hot out, Tan or Oak are definitely more comfortable to get into!

Only difference from this photo being that the parking brake handle is now the proper leather R one.

I don't know, it's the lighter interior with the light 850R seats. Not Oak, more of a tan color. Need to change the steering wheel and shift knob

Yep! I forget what his name is, but someone in Portland has an 855 Turbo in Nautic Blue and did an R Tribute on it similar to what you did on your V70. I love that car.

Gary also had an 854 Turbo in Nautic Blue. I want to say the color was first available in 1997 but I can't be certain.
