NWC Reunion

Recommended Posts

Hey there guys, it's sure been a long while since I've been on here or posted for that matter. Since going off to college, the car stuff got put on hold. During that time I sold my '99 S70 T5M and bought an '04 S60R. A year after that I ended up selling the R and going back to my original NA S70, last summer that POS was on the way out, so I picked up a '99 V70 R. It's been awhile since I've seen alot of you guys in the community and from the looks of the forum it looks like a whole lot of people either got out of the volvo scene or have just gone dormant. Now that I'm back on the westside for good I was hoping to get some of the guys back together so that we can revive the NWC volvo presence. I went to leavenworth and saw a grand total of three Volvo's two of which I had no idea who they were, we used to roll 15 deep or so every year. Lets get back to that point. Every week I see some sort of aftermarket Volvo of some sort, it's about time that we start getting these people involved and grow this community because its unlike any other. Would any of you guys be interested in a drive this month or some sort of meet? Let me know!

Hope all of your guy's projects are coming along smoothly!

Hey Marshall!

Yeah, it has gone dormant on VS but from what i understand, a lot of guys either have been communicating via Facebook or instagram. I've been on SS and I see some people from VS over there. I do miss the VS community we built here and it was good to see large NWC turnouts or support at meets.

I like your proposal and desire to bring the NWC back. Good to hear you are still driving a Volvo and is the R laser???? Details please!

I've got 3 kids now and barely have enough time to post up but I support your effort. I can't do an immediate drive or meet with you guys but would like to in the future. I know Joe, Volvo tech from Sandberg, he wants to do some meets with VS folks but I haven't seen or heard anything from him. And I don't have his handle name, my bad!

As far as my car, still got Elin and she's still running strong!

I hope your efforts are fruitful and a drive or meet can be done, at the earliest, by this summer!

Good to hear from you!

Later,

Mike

I've been absent from the forums for a while. The revamp kinda screwed with the mobile versions of the site to the point of being unusable. Since I spend 95% of my time on the web through mobile devices I mainly browse FB and IG.

Seem like it is getting better though.

After the LRW went into hibernation 18 months ago I bought a 98 XC as a beater/daily. We all know how that turns out. Its now thoroughly molested with several "upgrades". Just finished an m58 transplant as well.

There's definitely been a decline in the Volvo presence at Leavenworth which is sad. I've done a poor job at organizing the crew for meets and events afte the 850 went down. XXX has been largely successful in the last couple years. More integration with the Saab guys.

There is an upcoming car show hosted by the Ballard Elks, of which Jake Hall is a member.  I have attended this show for the past few years. Some years a lot of the local crew show up, some they don't.

Ballard Elks Annual Car Show

I was thinking that we should kind of high jack the show, of a sorts, and turn it into a Autumn/Fall version of the XXX Swedish Drive-in, just not named that, since it is the Ballard Elks show after all. This show is for all that show up and pay the entry "donation", so it would not be exclusive to us.  But, the timing is right, as opposite the year from XXX and you please, and it's an established show ran by people that have hosted a car show before. The Ballard Elk Lodge has a large parking lot, it rarely has reached 1/4 capacity in the past with all the cars that show up.  Plenty of room for us lot, and the others that come each year.  The Volvo people that have come in the past tend to gather in one corner of the lot and socialize while the rest of the show does what they want.  It works out nicely in my opinion, and we are all mutually respectable of each other.

And, since this is a Elks Lodge event, the entry fee donation is going to help charities.  If we usual Volvo suspects show up, that would be a sizable contribution that they would love to see.
