woah4
Made it 30mins in the XC. Low oil pressure light on, oil level gone. checked it before I left and it was fine. Bottom of the car is soaked, dipstick was blown out. Filled the car back up with oil, and added Lucas stabilizer, the car sounds totally normal at idle and the oil light is now off. But if you rev the engine to 2-3K it sounds like a garbage disposal, knocking lightly. Really weird... I'm thinking at this point I'm putting an engine in it but the lack of sound at idle confuses me... I haven't heard an engine do that, I wonder partially if it still just has low oil pressure and the sound is the engine starving of oil when revved, but I don't know why it would be, and the light is still off... anybody have any ideas? I'm super bummed out but I will be fixing it either way. I would love to save this engine but at this point I'm doubtful. Bad day.
woah4
So yes, the 2.4T is toast. Have a line on an 01 2.3 RN and will be putting it along with a 16T in the car next weekend. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but It should be a straight swap no? With the exception of some changes in the tune, I would assume. Hopefully the trans can take the extra power, but I can't justify putting another 2.4 in the car if it has to come apart anyway. If I'm paying, I'm playing. woah4
Old engine is out, and I have an RN 2.3 T5 with 16T ready to go in hopefully tomorrow. Engine spun the number 5 rod bearing, it was full of metal. Hoping to have it back up and running again this weekend, will update with pictures after it is completed. Also as a side note, I hate angle gears.
woah4
Got it running today, have to button it up still, (get the angle gear back in, belt on, passenger side axle, drive shaft yada yada) but hearing it run was fantastic. It's time for a beer. I'll get pictures posted tomorrow hopefully
woah4
No pictures yet because she's not working right and I spent all day trying to sort it out to no avail. I made a post in the performance section asking for any tips, but basically the car runs fine at idle but backfires and pops almost like it hits a spark cut rev limiter at 1500rpm. Occasionally it will run to 2000rpm but never any more, and this is in park or neutral, or in gear. I have tried changing just about every sensor I can think of and nothing seems to make a difference, has any one run into an issue similar to this before? I could really use some help, cheers

Thanks, so do I, I'm still nervous about having a car with a tan steering wheel, I can't imagine how I'm going to keep it clean lol. Knock on wood so far so good. Only things this car needs are the Haldex module on the rear diff, the Timing Belt (140K kms, 3 years on it) and the alarm module in the passenger front fender apparently has a dead internal battery, I love this car so far! woah4
Going to be hard for me to get any half decent pictures of this car for the next few months, I'm starting work in the dark and going home in the dark too, and all I have is an iPhone. But I tried. Cheers, Billy

I would take you up on it if I could drive the car but it's stuck where it is for now, thanks though! Billy
woah4
Been pretty busy with the V70, trying to get it to pass the safety inspection required a little bit of work, and after being sold the wrong control arms three times I finally got the right set and got the car together, for a bit it seemed nothing was going right at all but she's plated and on the road now! When I had it in the air: The right front strut, which for some reason was rubbing the inside of the strut tower, and was as a result replaced... new strut fixed the problem, but I had a night mare of a time getting the old strut apart, the top nut might as well have been welded on, to the extent that I broke the strut shaft with my torx bit! The now destroyed left front lower control arm, which simply refused to let its ball joint go. The Right front wasn't as bad but I decided to swap them both. The left front spindle-strut bolts were completely corroded in as well, and after a couple hours beating on them I finally got the bolts out! But of course, only to discover that the spindle showed some of the worst corrosion I have seen and needed replacement. Thankfully i still have my XC and spindles are one of the few suspension components that do interchange! Finally got it all back together, and the winter tires on! New wiper blades and a couple light bulbs changed too. My next plan is to get the Awd fixed and then swap the 16T that is currently on my XC onto this car, though part of me wants to build it into a 19T first. I won't be doing anything soon though, as this is our weather currently! Thats it for now, and realistically probably until spring lol. cheers, -Billy
