Looking for Volvo

You guys are great! I always enjoy a good forum. I found a 98 v70 with cloth seats and avoided it because of the cloth seats. It's right here. https://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/6001683177.html

Decent mileage but it's got a lot of dings and they are "waiting" for the title to come in the mail. The lowest they would go is $1800 but that was a few weeks ago.

As as far as OBD goes I bought a reader so I can check on the mileage for the 96+ cars. Esp the ones with the analog odometers. It wouldn't do any good on the 940 though.

That V70's cosmetically pretty rough. $1800 still seems kinda high to me, but that might just be me. It was like they were trying to make sure they didn't leave any body parts untouched. I don't care too much about the looks, but that pattern would make me nervous that the rest of the car was treated with similar 'care'.

Gotta agree with that!  But didn't the N/A versions of 850/s70/v70/940/960 come with cloth seats?  One of the things I miss from my 855 N/A is the fabric seats; much cooler in the summer.

I think all but the 960 had it as an option? Really uncommon though. And usually found on base models. Kinda funny that OP's just linked a V70 with cloth seats ... and they managed to be ripped too.

You can read the codes on any 240/740/940/94-95 850 without a code reader.

Good to know tryingbe. Well the 960 was a bust. Just had some suspicious things. Looked like it had been sitting for a while. Drivers window wouldn't roll back up when I rolled it down (totally left it like that). The guy wasn't there when we went by. Nice looking car for a 96 though, even had a third row seat.

I think I found a possible 98 v70 winner. https://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/6056431648.html. I'll go look at it tomorrow night if I can.

The AWD on this era car is particularly sensitive to needing matched tires so the overall diameter is the same on all 4 corners. Eyeball the tires, and I'd probably try to probe to see if were diligent with tire rotation and replacements. If driven for extended lengths with the mistmatch, it'll lead to bevel gear failure (aka angle gear).  Not an area I'm very strong in, so hopefully someone else can expand. I never understood the love for AWD - extra weight, drivetrain loss, and parts to maintain. A few members did some really cool stuff with the XC70s though.

I wonder what they mean by 'coolant system and fuel system'? The fuel system on these rarely has any trouble, but the language is kinda vague since no one 'replaces' a fuel system. Radiator failure at the plastic endtanks was mildly popular as was the heater core, though and the car would be due for a water pump and timing belt at 140k if they did the previous belt at 70k as specified.
