Sorry if you covered this already but what axles did you use with the M66C? I'm assuming the 99 4 speed axles since you went with the 99 angle gear? Thanks! The entire drivetrain is from my old 99 R, so I am using the 99 angle gear, axles, and downpipe. The 00 R axles and downpipe won’t work with the M66, so you’ll need to source 99 axles and either modify the stock 00 R downpipe or get an aftermarket one. The 00 R transmission mount is shorter so if you are using it as the basis for a custom M66 trans mount, note that you’ll have to account for the different mount height vs a 98/99 mount. Mark (blackT5) has a lot of these in his “00 R motor/manual swap” thread, I’d recommend checking it out.

It has been buffed and ceramic coated 😊 I’m thrilled with how the fresh paint and ceramic coating all turned out! I’ll take some better (non-iPhone) pictures but heres a quick preview. The ceramic coating sheds water like it’s glass, and the way it has improved the depth and gloss is hard to capture in a photo, but it’s very noticeable in person. 1

gmsgltr
woah! how did you wait or were told to wait for the paint to 'cure' before washing/waxing/coating it?

The painter said to wait at least 4 weeks after the paint got laid down, but with how schedules worked out it was about 6 weeks before it got buffed and ceramic coated. andyb5
Took a ride down to Stevo’s today and had him work his magic on my ECU. He remapped everything to play nicely with the B5234T8/M66 swap. It’s amazing how much better it is to drive. He has a modified ecu that lets him live-tune the car, so I could feel the effect of the revisions while I was driving which was super cool! Among other things, Steve reworked the throttle map so it is much smoother than the old auto tune, especially when decelerating in gear. Boost is set for about 15 psi which is great since I still have the stock downpipe and intercooler. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out We also went for a ride in Steve’s S70 T5M. It’s RN-swapped with an EFR 7064 and fast doesn’t cover it....his car is a monster!
Mesoam
I wish he would take tuning more seriously, he's very talented at it...

Love mine, but am upgrading to EFR 7670 and a custom spaghettifold.

I already have one for the 7064 somewhere here under showroom. I can make a new one once I start on the 7670. Right now, the car is waiting for the body shop slot in January. Needs some rust removal and conservation. And engine bay paint ;)
andyb5
Well, recent events may lead to an unexpected change of direction for this project. The engine has developed a ticking sound from the engine. I first noticed the sound occasionally appearing late last week, and it has begun to become more constant. I'll do some more investigation/documentation to confirm, but right now I'm 99% sure one of the rod bearings is toast I'm now on the hunt for a replacement engine. As much as I'd like to build a fresh bottom end, budget and time constraints mean that won't happen at this time. My ideal replacement for this 99 B5234T8 would be a B5234T9 from an 03/04 C70, which is nearly the same engine, with a number of small incremental improvements that should help make it a bit more reliable and develop a bit more power when compared to the older engine. I did consider a number of other options, but ultimately would like to stick with an 81mm bore block for the increased integrity of the block that offers when compared to an 83mm bore. The 147mm rods used on the later motors theoretically offer a small improvement in higher-RPM breathing than the 139.5mm rods in the 99 B5234T8 that I have now. As of now, with limited diagnostics performed, I DO NOT believe it to be related to Steve's tune, and would like to remind anyone who thinks otherwise that I ran a tune from Steve for over 25,000 miles on this engine in my old car without any issues. When you consider that this motor now has close to 240,000 miles, still has the original oil pan o-rings, and has had several brushes with low oil level/pressure throughout the nearly 90,000 miles of hard driving in 2 different chassis since I purchased the 99 R it came in almost exactly 7 years ago, it is my hypothesis that the level of wear that the engine was able to tolerate before exhibiting a major symptom of imminent failure has finally been reached.
B_Dub
That’s a drag Andy, I’m sorry. You’ll be better off in the end, that’s a heap of miles on that engine. Here’s to finding a good, low mileage replacement and good luck!
