Okay, story time.  Fast forward 2 months after having my injectors cleaned and serviced (see post above) and I'm about 1 hour into the 200 mile, 3+ hour drive from my parents house in RI back to my place in NY.  If you remember, the last time I made this drive, I popped a tire on a pothole and it took 5 hours to drive the rest of the way on the donut spare. I drove past the area where I got the flat tire, see the same creepy clown as last time smiling at me and waving, and think that was the worst drive home I've ever had.  Well, I sure jinxed myself....

Fixed it. Take a different road next time. 😂

  I'd be lying if I said that stretch of road doesn't live rent-free between my ears now.  I finally got the monkey off my back and made the same drive around Christmas without issue.

yikes - so all good now though? New injectors cured it and car is fine?

i wish i was closer to those guys Tom/Nick and Ben... I'd have them finish all the stuff I haven't done in years.

Yup, all good to go.  It's been 6 months and not a hiccup (watch that be a jinx, fml).

Rumor has it that both Re-Volv and Rolling Motors are expanding to bigger shops in the near future.  Highly recommend you take a ride up and drop your wagon off. Plenty of other guys have done the same thing.  Heck, Anthony ( @apeacock) drove his wagon over 6 hours to Ben's a few different times now.

Some minor updates/incremental progress from the fall.  Several years ago, I scored an OG metal mesh IPD grille from Adam @adamdrives and ran it on my 99 R for a short while before getting rid of that car.  So after a few years in storage, I had a friend powder coat the grille for me.

For those who remember, the original IPD grilles were either all silver or all black.  I went with black mesh and a silver band as an OEM style play off the stock XC grille or the modified stock waterfall grille I had on the car.

Since the IPD grille has a much thinner perimeter than the stock grille, parts of the hood that were previously hidden were now going to be visible inside the grille.  This was undesirable so I masked off the area around where the grille meets the hood and plasti-dipped it black.  I also sprayed the hood release rod and handle in the same black so they'll disappear into the background.

And installed the grille

Ever since seeing one on the IPD Stage 3 V70 and then on some of the various forum cars (looking at you, Gary @Yellow95) over the years, I've wanted to run a custom silver/black version this grille on my wagon.  Thanks to Adam and my friend Donovan for the powder coating, that vision has come to life and I couldn't be happier.

I believe that was my very first mod I did on my car is the iPd mesh grill.  Still rockin' it.

That’s awesome. They’re a really well-made piece. In high school, I wanted to put one on my 98 V70 NA but my parents talked me out of it. So instead I upgraded the stereo

Andy what spring rates are you running on your coilovers?

I have been reading about the BC racing sets... with swift springs... but unsure about all the rear spring rate options.

edit: I should say... the 5k front and 4k rear is how they come... from what little i know, that seems pretty soft

Greg - I have 5K front springs on my front CX coils.   They're kinda soft, not much firmer than stock.  Ride is comfy, and handles decently, but definitely leaves something to be desired in terms of body control relative to other coilovers I've experienced on these cars.

The AWD rear is completely different, so I wouldn't have any meaningful input on rates. Check out this thread from SS for some pretty good discussion on spring rates: https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/coilovers-spring-rates.610761/#post-7452217

If you're considering BC's, I'd really lean towards the digressively valved DS series over the linearly valved BR series.  Should offer better body control (handling)  https://www.bcracing-na.com/articles/ds-series.  They offer both in P80 fitment and there's not much difference in price.

  • 1 month later...

Got a FLIR One as a birthday present from my fiancé and obviously I had to try it out on my car:

These were taken after the car had been sitting for about 15 minutes after I got home.

Although this thing annoys me sometimes, it does clean up pretty nicely.  I finally got around to editing some photos from this fall and wanted to share them since I think they do a great job of showing the how incredible this paint color is during golden hour.
