JaredR1
So my dad just bought this oddball. Looks like another press car (built 10/96, imported 1/97, not shipped to dealer until 9/97), which makes sense given the way it's spec'd out and the heated seats and no headlight wipers, which seems to be a signature press car feature. He's gonna drive it for a while as an automatic to see if he can tolerate m4.4, and then we'll manual swap it once we know if we're leaving it 4.4 or converting to ME7 with the manual swap. It's in New Orleans, so I'll probably take the train down there over 4th of July break or between finals and graduation in August (yeah my school is weird and actually has a 4 1/3 year program) to drive it home. Should be fun. Obviously the bumpers need a respray. Luckily we've figured out how to deal with that. We'll definitely be adding a wing while we're at it. I don't know if we'll be able to save this tailgate if we want to make this thing look 100%. These are the worst dents on the car from what the seller says. Karelian birch trim! My dad and I love this stuff, and this is only the 5th car I've seen in North America to have it. I'm going to start shopping for a nice chunk of this wood to carve a shift knob out of for the manual swap.
andyb5
Cool car, definitely a unique color! If you decide to go to ME7, would you do an RN engine with it, or just an RN head? Obviously you'll have to swap all the electronic components either way.

I would be inclined to get a complete RN engine. If we do go that route, I might just pick up another subframe and build the new setup out of the car just like I am planning on doing for my R. gdog
Like the color! Cool seats; original? What do you mean "tolerate the M4.4"? '98 MY yes? They came w/M4.4. You going to do some DIY tuning?

You going to do some DIY tuning? Given the history and the way everything else is spec'd out, we're pretty sure everything in the interior is original. I'm not aware of another set of V70 SE seats in North America. Yes, MY98 so comes with m4.4. My dad has been driving a manual 1999 V70 NA for the last 7 years so he is used to how the ME7 cars drive and likes it much better than the way my 850s drive (aside from the turbo part lol). If he still doesn't like it after we get this car home and he starts driving a m4.x car on a more regular basis, we're gonna get rid of all that and put ME7 this thing. gmsgltr
Interesting that it has the plastic 'rests' for the headlight wipers... such a crazy unique color!

Only on one side though. My guess is the housing on that side was replaced for some reason.

Just a fringe-topic FYI - almost all 850s are m4.3. Except for 96 or 97 with an air pump, those are m4.4. That's a nice T5 combo, cool find!
