At one point yesterday, I almost just cut the radiator in half.

I get all kinds of flack when I line up all my broken cars up down the driveway. Surprisingly no one has said anything to my face. My old pickup with multi colored panels doesn't help. I do have one neighbor that keeps stopping buy to see my progress, he's into Volvos. I made some progress over the last two days. The motor is out of the silver car. I really struggled to remove the bevel gear, the rear driveshaft was stuck. The previous owner of the silver car lived on a gravel road and the entire underside of the car is caked with dried mud. Every bolt had to be cleaned before I could pull it. Also both front axles and the driveshaft on the silver car are bad. The good thing is, both front axles and the driveshaft on the saffron car have been rebuilt. I've made progress on the saffron car. I'm ready to pull the bevel gear, axle and driveshaft are removed. I need to pull the intake, downpipe, accessories, and unbolt the motor from the tranny. So far everything I've removed from the saffron car has come off like it should. galexie64
The R motor is in place in the silver car. I was also able to install the P2 R exhaust manifold installed onto the motor before the install. Tomorrow is my last chance to finish this up because the temp drops Sunday. galexie64
Well I'm almost done. Tomorrow I need to bleed the fuel system, burp the cooling system, flush the tranny, start the car, final check of fluids and for leaks, install the wheels, drop the car down, and go for a test drive. I'm going to have to wait on the upgraded rear brakes, rear sway bar, fuel filter, and cabin air filter for another day.
galexie64
The car is running and driving. I actually drove it to work today. Overall the car is doing great. I need to still swap the front strut assembly over from the saffron car, The front passenger side strut is making a ton of squeaking noises. The dash has a flashing arrow but the transmission is shifting fine, I need to run the scanner over lunch. Overall I can't complain because the car has no leaks, temps are good, no check engine lights, etc. I was a lifesaver having two cars because I was What I ended up swapping: - 2.3 HPT motor (complete) -Angle gear with collar sleeve (looks new) -Both front axles (rebuilt) -Driveshaft (rebuilt) -302 mm front brakes (rotors, calipers, caliper brackets, hardware, and SS lines came from the saffron car; new pads came from the pewter car) -ABS controller and front sensors (cleaned) -Fuel pump relay -K&N air filter -Front passenger side hub assembly -motor mounts -I also replaced all the fluids in the motor, transmission, and angle gear. What's left to do mechanically: -Vented rear brakes including SS lines -change oil in rear -swap the front strut assemblies -change the spark plugs -replace the HID headlight bulbs (ordered) -change out the exhaust clamp between the downpipe and the rear -Fuel filter -Torque rod mount
galexie64
I swapped out the front strut assemblies so I now eliminated the bad suspension squeak. I did discover that I will need to get new front sway bar links. I also swapped the transmission TSS which got rid of the fault code. I do still need to swap out the throttle cable and kickdown switch. I replaced the HID Lights and any other dead bulbs. What's left to do mechanically: Vented rear brakes including SS lines change oil in rear change the spark plugs change out the exhaust clamp between the downpipe and the rear Fuel filter Torque rod mount Replace transmission seals between trans and angle gear replace sway bar end links
galexie64
Looks like I have to fix a gas leak on the Volvo. I just found out this morning that it is a bomb. I backed it into the driveway last night with a full tank of gas. The rear was slightly higher than the front. This morning I realized that I had lost over 3 gallons of gas on the driveway. The gas is leaking form right around the the fuel pump. I'm planning to cut the access hole instead of dropping the subframe because I know I will end up replacing the fuel pump in the near future and I don't want to do it twice. Should be able to drop just the few pieces on the front and not have to slice up the floor.

I figured I could do it in a way that I could use a strip welded on around where I cut and install nudserts. I want to make it a clean easy to use access panel, not just a hack job. Has anyone actually done something like that?

I welded my access panel back on, cut only 3 sides and flapped it up.

Discocconnet and or remove prop shaft. Loosen tank strap from passenger side. Remove front 3 big bolts for the torsion arm mount. Remove front bolt for Viscous coupler. If that doesn't give you enough lean down to remove it all take the VC off as well. Not a bad way that Marshall did it. But I would have 100% gone for Oetiker clamps where those worm ones are.
