small update, wmi is now up and running after some issues actually getiing hold of methanol, 1st order is still nowhere to be seen after 2 weeks and 2nd order delivered floor polish by accident :a-farmboy:

anyway the AEM kit came with everything needed to install apart from a bung to weld into the charge pipe, weird issue, all the fixings they included were from biblical times and were imperial....wtf

anyway apart from the picture of the tank and pump mounted, it was just a case of running a small loom and the meth pipe to the front of the car, following instructions for wiring

y4md2cvf3CbO1gYIixngYAzxMAFfRkmrMJOuK4mh

bung welded into boost pipe

y4mn_ogRejuxa06m2E0ATCpLPp4Zo4YG18oDdxth

boost pipe and injector installed, silicon wrapped the meth pipe in any places it may rub on something for extra protection

y4mXr32dS_EoGjT3ggesyyFSqA4FOjkrxYs9Mi0i

intake back on, only sign now is the extra wires to the battery (AEM specifically said to wire power and earth direct to the battery)

y4mLf7EAUmheqWExW3OMgd1NtpEty5TZFmpLt_Zk

crappy pic but controller and separate LED on the dash, the LED brightness changes with pump flow and flashes for errors.

I will be adding a pressure sensors and @venderbroecks meth map switching in the near future for extra safety.

so tuning wise I have added about 2 degrees timing to the whole high load area of the map and taken 0.2 afr out, this time last week I was picking up knock on the old map at the same ambient temps, today there has been no knock and I've been rough on it, there is easily room for more timing, currently at 7.5 deg at spool rising to 18 deg by redline.

afrs are nudging the 10s during spool and settling at low 11s to redline, i feel there is plenty of fuel to come out now but timing already seems high for these engines, any info on timing numbers is welcome

the extra couple of degrees at the top end really seems to have helped power drop off up there, used to feel like it was dying off above 6.5k

the wideband mod is working wonders, stft is compensating for the added fuel easily, seeing 10% drop in injector duty

as for the 'butt dyno' so far, I'd say at 8 degrees ambient today it feels like it did 2 weeks ago at -5 degrees, that includes the same traction issues from colder tyres

EGTs are slightly higher at the moment which should suggest that it wants more timing but will try to get the fuel sitting at 11.5 before going nuts with timing

ok so time for an update and to pick everyones brains.

after a while of the car running amazing with the meth and beating on it harder, the gearbox has packed in.

now I have access to another 4.00 m56 to drop in but where's the fun in that.

my eventual plan is to run a 4.45 m66 with lsd and ttv flywheel but this is going to be expensive and need alot of parts collecting so also considering just doing the flywheel and dropping a s40 m56 4.45 FD into a p80 m56.

does anyone know if the s40 FD will fit? or even drop a full s40 gearset into my unhappy gearbox?

as far as m66 goes, I'd need to work out a clutch disc that will work with the m66 spline count and 850r clutch, I've read that a Sachs SD-693 will fit but wouldn't handle the power, so far the stock 850r setup seems to be holding on just fine at around 400whp so would rather just change the disc to a comparable one with the right spline count.

LSD would be a Mfactory helical for a focus m66, looks like the box will be a focus one anyway as they seem to be cheaper.

now most standard m66 boxes don't seem to have much better ratios than m56 so would be looking to swap a better final drive in too, 4,25 or 4.45 to keep the turbo in its power band during shifts.

Suggest you re-post this in Perf section to get more eyes on your questions.  Sorry, I can't help; not my area of knowledge..

yeah thats a good idea mate I think I'll do that.

If you are from UK, go for M66D31 from diesel fwd. it has 4:1 final drive and wider first/last gear ratio than m56

Wider gear pack offers more options and 4:1 fd will save some pennies during daily cruising

thanks for the input, I found what I think are the ratios for that box and I don't think they will be suitable to be honest,  I'm running a bigger turbo than stock and think closer gearing will help keep it  on song better, not too bothered about fuel savings, the cars now a bit of a dog down low anyway, I may have access to a 4.53 fd that I'm hoping to put in a focus st m66 now, mfactory have a ratio calculator that's very useful

now, being an auto, the 'stage zero' involved adding that third pedal so it got a m56h

lasted 4 days with the auto and it just had to go!!!

OMG! What a great definition for "Stage Zero"!

Ahahahaha, "I lasted 4 days" with the automatic!

Wow, you have already made up for any neglect this car had before you picked it up.

Lucky Car!

Please excuse my late entry,  (I just started catching up on threads as time limited permits).

Haha thanks 😁

I know autos are popular in the States but here they are stricktly for old people 😂

Another minor update, I'm waiting for the postman to drop of a focus st m66 with cables and shift box, Mfactory helical lsd and ttv flywheel.

Still working out clutch plate but got plenty of time as the flywheel isn't stocked and needs to be made.

Was toying with swapping the st's 4.00 FD to a 4.53 but this may not be possible.

This car isn't a daily (well isn't supposed to be) so cruising revs isnt something I care about

bit of porn 😎

ttv flywheel and mfactory helical lsd. also focus m66 and matching shift box and cables to go with it.

gotta work out how to do the shift setup, not even sure yet if the cables are close to being the right length or if my p80 ones can work.

my cables are already fitted with delrin bushes to match the shift throw mods to the gearbox so the size of the ends isn't an issue

An M66 from a P1 chassis needs the P1 shifter and shift cables, they’re totally different than the P80 ones. I’m running them in my 00 R, they work out pretty well.

Sorry only now seeing this.  The cable length is right?

Progress been slow so far, still collecting parts.

The cables are actually the perfect length... and the grommet on the cables will even bolt up to the firewall.  Make sure to fab in the P1 shifter assembly.  I had to remove the plastic riser and make sure the floor was made flat.

Yup, the cables drop right in. Like Lucas said, you have to remove the the black plastic piece of the dash/console that the auto gear selector bolts pass through so that the M66 shifter clears the center console.

3 of the 4 factory bolt hole locations work with the M66 shifter base, which puts the shifter a bit forward in the console shifter opening. You can use a piece of aluminum to create new bolt locations and center the shifter.

Having just made a set I will contest they are almost essential. The shift is way way smoother now that I'm not dragging the base of the shifter against the metal of the car.

thanks for all the info! this is my shifter, it seems the p1 volvo shifter is different to this?

comparing it to a spare 850 shifter it shouldn't be too hard to get it to fit, offset bushes maybe do the trick
