Volbro850
I’m in the process of tearing down my 96 850r I bought and manual swapping it and replacing seals and yadda yadda yadda. I’m wanting to do a build for the budget guys. Nothing too crazy but a complete bolt on motor with a eBay (yes I said eBay) t04e .63ar $110 turbo. I haven’t seen much on people using a eBay turbo on a Volvo. It’ll make some people mad, it’ll make some people laugh. But I hope the end result is a pretty fast car with a eBay turbo. I’ll probsbly do some YouTube videos along the way and document somethings to do when adding a larger frame turbo on a 850. I got the idea of a t04e turbo from simply Volvo’s thread. He used a Garrett t04e. So I want to give that a shot. So what if it the turbo doesn’t last long. Depending on how long it lasts I’ll just buy another one. The one I purchase WILL be sent of the be balanced. Now or my questions open up to exactly what is needed to run it. I’ve seen in his thread about a 20 percent oil reducer going to or from the turbo. Maybe to help with oil starvation. He put a bigger connector on his pcv box to a catch can. Is that necessary? What are some things to expect with a larger frame turbo as far as modifications go that you wouldn’t have to do with a 16g (20t) td04hl. I want to learn how to do this the right way to keep the motor in tac. The motor has right around 100k on it so it should be pretty healthy. I bought this car for $500 that had sat for 2-3 years because of a leaking heater core. So this is going to make it a fun play toy when it’s all said and done. May take me a little bit to complete with my full time and overtime job and family. But it will get done. Any input is greatly appreciated. venderbroeck
Some of those ebay turbo's seem to have the tendancy to self destruct when they have to produce too much boost. Have you taken a look at holset turbos? They are also cheap, but don't have that exploding quality to them. Something like a hy35 or hx35 would make plenty of power. I think they explode because people just slap them on. That’s why I say I’ll send it off for balancing. I know most people won’t agree with going with a Chinese turbo but hey someone needs to try it out! I’ll probably won’t be going over 20psi. So I don’t think that’ll be crazy for that turbo. But if all fails I’ll have proof of eBay turbos sucking. Or possibly being ok
Volbro850
Well after further reading, it doesn’t seem like a eBay turbo is the best idea, not even a cx racing turbo. So next topic. what t3 turbos will suit a factory bottom end motor to make 330-350hp
slklite
Too bad, I would have liked to see how it would have turned out ;) I'll follow your post !!!

Volbro850
K24 from a s/v60r won’t cut it, I lucked up and found a dsm big 16g turbo on Facebook yard sale page for $75! Came with a billet compressor wheel and a 9 blade turbine wheel! All that is needed to do is purchase a 3 inch compressor housing and 8cm exhaust housing and rebuild the thing and put it on! May have $500 in it after its all said and done. But I will be able to probably make around 320-330whp with it on a stock bottom end.
