andyb5
A few years prior to my ownership, the stock B5244T2 blew the head gasket and it was replaced with a B5244T short block from a 00 XC. The shop that did the work installed the B5244T2’s 19T & greens on the B5244T and left it running the factory tune. The engine ran well until I replaced it with the B5234T8/M66 from my 99 R. I never had any issues with knock, but obviously a tune that’s adjusted properly will be a better long term solution.

I found 2 B5254T2 in nearby parting yards, both late 2005 YM, and of course nobody there knows about head differences so I just asked to get one spark plug out and send me pic on whatsapp, and in both cases I got short threaded plug. Of course there's a possibility that owners used wrong spec plugs..
wizzard_al
B5254T2 engine has a different head than the B5254T4 or B5244T5. Those 2 engines have a thicker water passage around the spark plugs, and the spark plugs have a longer threaded portion, but heads are otherwise the same as the B5254T2 engines. I.e., you have the same positions of the cams, the same location of the intake and exhaust ports, etc. The T4 or T5 engines have plugs with longer threads, and the coil packs have shorter boots on the bottom of the coils. These coils can actually be used in any other engine, you just have to change the lower rubber boot, and maybe stretch the coil spring that connects to the plug itself. So the short threaded plug means you have found a B5254T2 LPT engine. To tell which engine it is, have a look at the decal on the front (passenger side) of the engine, it will tell you which engine it is.

For other S60's, it started in 2005 and ran through 2007 with these engines: B5204T5 (LPT), B5244T4, B5244T5 (HPT), B5254T2 (LPT), B5254T4 (HPT) and ran through 2008 in just the B5254T2 engines. From what you said earlier I understand that this thick water passage head was later installed also on the LPT B5254T2, therefore I looked around for 2005+ LPT engine. Nevertheless both of them what I found were with short threaded spark plugs So is this correct and possible to find a 2005-2007 LPT with this long-thread spark plug head? Im switching to propane gas fuel, and it produces more heat, thats why more efficient engine cooling would be beneficial.
Andzey
I give up searching that beefy head on B5254T2 LPT's - today I got my hands on one from 2007 XC70, it had the 93.2mm crank yet old style head. So, if you are looking for dual VVT 2.5 with larger stroke but don't want to spend money or have no access to B5254T4, the T2 is an answer, still will have to accept the ordinary head geometry. Besides, for most of the daily driver projects the late LPT's with their additional 0.5 compression ratio will be a better choice in terms of fuel efficiency during highway cruise
wizzard_al
Unfortunately, my information comes from VIDA, and sometimes I think Volvo gets it wrong. It may be that only some of the engines in Europe got the thicker head. And if so, I am sorry to have misled you. I have a 2003 B5254T2 head, and it clearly has the shorter plugs for it. So maybe Volvo intended to use the head in other engines, but didn't run out of stock of the other heads, or some other crazy situation.

For example in Volvo motherland Sweden, biggest online scrapyard website states that all avialable thich heads comes from T2 https://www.bildelsbasen.se/se-sv/OEM/36050243/
