I have been up to the limiter in both and 04 and 06. Neither felt unsable as long as you controlled the car smoothly. The uneven road surfaces are a bit of a challenge. I always fear that a rough spot in a turn will throw me off the road. But I hang on, have faith and continue to plow along at max speed. What you were being paced by had alot more power than you and was willing to use it. Once I was pacing a newer Maserati and it seemed like the guy could not pull on me. Then again, it may be a case of the 0-60 times looking good and the 120-155 times looking bad for the Maserati. Also the driver may not have wanted to have the extra wear and tear of dropping gears. I didn't mind one bit opening it up. Just be careful and remember that we all do it from time to time but the right place is on a track or closed roads. Enjoy the car.

I'm awaiting the arrival of my 06 V70R, but I've had my 1998 S70 T5 at it's limit of 148 MPH several times, it feels a little skitterish over 130, but all in all rather solid. I'd espect the R to be more planted.

Just this past Saturday I was able to get to 105 mph coming back from Arizona City. It's a flat section of desert on I-10 with 75 mph posted speeds, but 85 mph is the norm, and no place for DPS to hide. Traffic cleared sufficiently for me to pass a couple of left lane hogs and I went from 85 to 105 very quickly, then had to slow back down for the next traffic clog going 85. The car was so smooth and fluid I don't think any of my three passengers even realized we were going that fast. At least no one let on.

Is the feel of looseness due to aero-lift? I would think that is a major part of the loose feel at high speeds.

A front splitter/spoiler would help with settling the front, but then you would also need to get some downforce at the rear.

For comparison take a look at the 911 GT3 pictures and see how deep the front spoiler lip (the black piece under the front bumper) and also the rear wings (two layers).

GT3 Rear:

The GT3 CUP front splitter is even longer (1 inch more) and the rear wing is obviously larger and raked more.

We would need something similar to get rid of lift on the V70R and also lower the car by about 1-2 inches to get higher stability at high speeds.

And yes, this one is my weekend fun car.

Show off.

At least up to 120, I didn't detect much aero shenanigans going on. The car felt stable until I hit medium sized bumps, where the reaction was kind of scary.

Some of our bretheren over in Europe have pushed the car hard and I have not come across any discussion over aero stability.
