Pic's of new V70

That is why I said perceived lag. Unboosted the V8 will probably be around 250 Hp with the lower compression, cams and timing required for the turbo(s). Any time you go from 250 Hp to 370 Hp at boost most people are going to complain about the time it takes (lag) even if it is a lot quicker than your 2.4L motor.

I have to say that the current R motor really is not bad on the turbo lag front, and the new BMW 3.0L twin turbo I-6 is fantastic, so if Volvo designed it right, it would be a blast.

I have to agree - the turbo lag is not bad.

As to the Volvo inline 6's, a Volvo specialist (indy) in the city apparently likes the 5's but recommends to stay away from the Volvo inline 6's - ' don't know why.

For me - as a former SHO owner - I like the idea of the Yamaha 8! HP is one thing - but torque rules too. There was a guy selling Blue Ovals with "Yamaha" on them rather than Ford to place on the back of SHO's - I never got one, but people would say that they never realized Yamaha made cars! More than a few SHO owners were more proud of the Yamaha heritage than the Ford. Maybe I should order some of these to be ready for my next R :) I did like my previous Yamahammer (as some affectionately called it).

i am brand new to this forum, and have a basic question. in august, 2007 i am planning a trip to sweden for a vacation and to pick up a new v70r wagon. but from what i've read, the r version won't be ready until 2009. is this correct? if so, what engine choices will i have? thanks. bruce

Welcome to the Forum, Bruce. By August 2007 you will be getting one of the last of the current generation 2007 V70Rs. The next generation V70R, if it is produced, will not arrive until 2009 or 2010.

thanks doug. well, then, i am going to go ahead with the plan on an '07. right now i am leaning toward a red wagon with the special baseball glove leather (don't know the real name) interior.

maybe in another 2-3 years i will be forced to buy a new one.

is here a way to get an e-mail notification of answers to my questions or comments on this forum? on a corvette forum that i use, they have a deal where you "subscribe" to a particular thread, and can select "instant notification". bruce

The natural leather you are refering to is called Atacama. To get email notification go to "My Controls" and select "email notification" to set it up.

I like your choice of words... "forced" :-)

I'm trying to keep my current R for 10 years. So, 2009 is perfect timing. But the MDX is looking like it will meet my needs as well if not better. I didn't think I'd have any other car look interesting to me other than the next R.

As an XC model i think thats a nice looking atempt but volvo being volvo if you buy a standard V70 its going to look ugly as hell no beef to it atall. And as for an R model they will have to sort out that arse before i would even consider it.

I agree, it's hind end leaves a great deal to be desired... And what's with the rings around the foglights? Looks like a racoon to me..

I think it's a shame that Volvo seems to be a styling follower with this next generation than a styling leader liks they were with the S60/S80/V70 styling when they came out. Seems to me it looks awfully like this Subaru Forester... Forget about the Saabaru, this is a Volvaru...

Upside is, this is a part that should be able to be fairly easily retooled for a three-year old "facelift", perhaps right around the time an R would be introduced.

I seriously doubt there would be any major retooling of the tailgate for the R introduction. Possibly a more monochrome lower fascia change, a rear spoiler, and minor clean up, but that would be about it.
