I want to see pics of the JDM SiR!!! Was it the glass top roof too? I've always been a sucker for Rex's!!!
Here's the rex:PICT2272.jpgPICT2274.jpgPICT2266.jpgPICT2265.jpgPICT2263.jpgPICT2262.jpg
My wife is more from the "If you can't beat-em - MOCK them..." :) I've been working on her hard though, and my latest success was to give her a 95' CBR600F3 as a surprise along with a riding course this spring. Hoping she takes to riding as she used to say she always wanted a bike in HS.I know there are others on the forum with young ones too. Since I can NEVER do a mini-van - I needed a sweet wagon that was still a drivers car. If you get a chance - I highly recommend a drive in a 00' V70R. The extra ratio in the tranny (5sp) and the added HP make for a REALLY sweet ride. My only other comparison was a 98' XC - and it was kinda of a dog off the line with the 4sp auto.Rabin

Is it possible to swap the '00 tranny into a '98? details as to how, why or why not?--still learning so don't laugh. :(

Also would adding a tranny cooler help any?

It is possible but not feasible due to the 5 speed's Transmission Control Module (TCM) not being compatible with the 98 Engine Control Module (ECU). You would have to find someone capable of reprogramming the ECU to work with the 5 speed tranny. To my knowledge no one has done it yet. You would be better getting an ECU upgrade for some extra performance. A good place to check out is IPD .

A transmission cooler would not hurt but it is not going to overcome the inherent internal weakness of the transverse mounted automatic transmission. Even the 5 speed does not provide much additional strength over the 4 speed. Typically, for an all out performance R many consider a Manual tranny swap which does not use a TCM and is substantially stronger than the Auto. Do a search and you will find some info on the swap.

That is awesome!!! I love the power window feature on the JDM cars. I used to run a car audio/import performance shop here in Canada called The Speed of Soud and one of our shop cars was an 89 Rex that we dragged. I've always been a huge fan of the glass top on those cars. That is a one heck of a pretty example...bummer it's gone! What did it sell for? If you don't mind me asking.

Oh...and welcome to the club...btw...almost forgot that part too!!! lolol

Off topic - but how does one get a JDM car into the States - thought the import rule there was 25 years... Cool car none the less even though.

Like Doug said - not worth the swap to the 5sp auto, and the 00' does have it's own set of issues to weigh against them as well (ETM - electronic throttle module), but for me it was worth the added complexity for a better car. (Plus I do all my own work on it if it does break.)

Now you just need to post pics of the new wagon... :)

Hey Rabin, I believe the importation law in the States only applies to vehicles that were not originally offered for sale in the US...as the CRX was offered for sale in the US...the RHD cousin would be permissable...I know that there are alot of Japanese Tuner RHD cars in Detroit...mostly Silvia's and/or 180sx's. Cars such as the Skyline that was never offered would be a 25 year restriction.

The rex sold for $8,500. As far as the importation law... it didn't apply to us because it's a conversion.

Thanks for the clarifications on the import rules - makes sense now in both instances. (Conversion and importation)

As for being a b@stard? ;) Never...

Full gallery: Nautic Pearl V70R

I have to agree with you though, of all the colours I've seen so far, the Nautic Pearl is the nicest. (And pictures don't even do it justice!)

As for me - life is sweet! Been at home full time with Ella since Nov 23rd on paid 6 mo paternity leave... (We split the 12 months we get after having a kid... Sweet gig. And most likely never to happen again now that she sees what she's missing!)

your camera is broken

and what is the deal with the bumper ?

Its a non R bumper on a R .

Or its the angle and I am not seeing it correctly.

But the bumper grills are off a Non R bumper, I have the same ones

I have the R ones on order :D

Interior shots ?

I agree. That's not an R front bumper. Maybe it was damaged at one point and replaced with a standard one.

The rear bumper is correct but looks like the previous owner added dual exhaust as the 98s had single exhaust.

Also the wheels are stock T-5 wheels not R.

Well now - so if it doesn't have alcantra (suede like cloth) inserts on the seats, no blue gauge faces, and the valve cover isn't blue then it's likely not an R...

If it has all that stuff then it then just has different wheels (Which some change like underwear!) and a different front bumper... Running a carfax check on it might be a good idea to see if there's a record of a front end repair. Carfax isn't THAT reliable - but it is a helpful tool.

Here's hoping it's just a stealthy R...
