it reminds me of a funny story about a group of inmigrants that arrive on ellis island, and the minute that they set foot on land they asked the rest of the people on the boat to go home.

Im also extremly interested where you heard this story, and also not only immigrants act like that. Most of the people in america feel the same way about a state or two. Here in colorado i always hear these types of remarks directed towards, for example, people from texas or oklohoma. "Go back to texas" or "Stop inbreeding and go back where you came from" are some of the things that can be heard directed towards your fellow countrymen.

If i were you, i would think twice about saying anything along the lines of what u said in this post because i can bet anything that you are not native american and that your roots in this country started because you great great great grandfather or some one in your family lineage was an immigrant.

All of this comes from america being such a young country. 1776 is pretty young compared to well...OLD countries. America HAS to stop immigration because we are running out of LAND! If people think their country sux theres one universal response...go to america. Little do they know if they actually get here and are legal they find the "freedom" we have comes at many prices...For instance all the ridiculous loopholes in the judicial system etc etc...My family came to america around 1900-1903. But theres some kind of mental barrier i dunno. And yes america did save europe from the germans :P

I hope you are kidding. Also, america is not running out of land. America is just used to so many more comforts then any other nation. Go to any other industrialized nation and you will see that most of the dwelling there are not single homes but instead appartments. America just needs to find a way to better use this land. The one correct thing that sad-day did say is that this county was built on immigrations and slave labor. If you get rid of many of the illegal immigrants that a lot of you just dislike with a passion, this country might very well collapse. People wil start demanding more money for lower paying jobs, prices will go up, and sooner or later everything will be outsourced. Be carefull what u wish for.

russians rock, but I think a great point (esp for the people like the other MA kid) is that if they have any irish, italian, german or other continental european in them, then there is a good chance their ancestors were looked down upon and described as being "monkeys" and sub-human and worse by the existing american population of the time. Don't bring up BS about them being "legal" or not, as it was MUCH, MUCH, MUCH easier to legally enter the US then (due to less strict policies and lax enforcement). If you know anyone who has tried to become a citizen these days (like my dad and his brothers), then you will know that it's Darn near impossible. My dad for instance came here in 1973 to go to school, and he wasn't granted citizenship until ~1992, and he was an MIT educated Anglo-Chilean whose father was one of the major vehicle importers for the city of Lima in Peru. If it was that hard for someone that white, educated, and productive to become a citizen, then my heart really goes out for those who are less fortunate and want to enter the country. My uncle who lives in Framingham, MA is still not a citizen, and he was a business major from cornell. Things were difficult enough trying to make a decent living here that my other uncle who went to stanford up and went back to Chile rather than trying to make things work in this far from immigrant friendly country. I'll be the first to admit that there are tons of problems with urban immigrant communities, but there are also tons of problems among communities with a long history of being in this country, both white and otherwise. What I am sick and tired of is xenophobes with no idea of what one must go through to be "legal" in this country spouting off about immigrants. In my town (Lexington, MA), it's the asian and indian immigrants who are the hardest working people, both in school and otherwise, and alot of the more conservative and anti-immigrant people are the older, complacent white people who are jealous of the success of the immigrants. Also from dealing with american workers and immigrant workers, I can say that there is no comparison between the two. It's no surprise that we're seeing another major change in the country and it's working population.

you cant' be serious. your saying U.S. needs to find better use of its land. we're the US for a reason. we don't want to live like a 3rd world country. you think we shouldn't be allowed to have our own homes, just apartments. over population is a serious problem. maybe we should be like china and have a quota on how many children a family can have. at the rate the mexicans and other illegal aliens are coming into our country it won't be far off. besides cheap labor they don't offer anything to our country. i agree with programs that allow work so they can get money back to their families.

in college i read an article that explained that the only way our world will ever go on is through massive nuclear bombings. basically destroy large amounts of the world so we all can rebuild. over population is whats is going to destroy us. using up all the resources. i'm not saying i believe in nuclear war, but it does show how serious over-population is.

so if you want to share you home with a illegal mexican family of 9, then feel free to do so............ you can pay for all the bills, health care, etc........because i sure don't.

So who do you think won WWII, America??

actually everyone but germany won :) but if we wouldn't have jumped in, Europe would be a very different place these days.

as for immigrants, i can understand why tey come here. The Us needs a better policy, allowing people to stay here just because they had a child here makes no sense at all. I work with 3 mexicans, and they work just as hard as i do. Also, most mexicans can speak English but their content to let you think they're just a "stupid immigrant" because it makes it easier for them. I can't tell you how many times my boss tells one of them to do something and they pretend they don't understand, then i'll be talking to them 5 mins later. they're not stupid, they want the good life just like everyone else. Wouldn't you do whatever was in your power to make that happen?
