Hi Guys

I needed some parts for the old 850 the other day and stumbled across this is a wrecking yard of all places !

Why wreck something so rare with zero accident damage ?

Unfortunately the front was already sold off the car before I stumbled across it, also the head and turbo have been removed along with all associated parts and put in in a large plastic container in the back of the car.

These cars are pretty rare in AUS and its going to be hard to find the nessesary parts to get her running again but with a little bit of advise from you guy's and some patience i will have it on the road one day...

I have already found a bonnet fenders radiator support and fenders at a reasonable price.

here is a couple of snaps from the Blackberry...

Darren,

I think you now offically have a volvo addiction!

Your 'new project' right??

Trent

Um yes I think you are right !

Since the RX-7 is nearly completed the next project will be the Saffron wags...what can I say,I build cars for a hobby ;)

Here are some snaps of the 2001FD RX-7 that I also rescued...

This is the bare shell back in my garage after a full respray.

Here it is a month later with wiring, motor, gearbox and interior in...

And here she is tonight after the first time starting engine...still on stands but not for long as I need the room for the Saf.

As I work for Mazda I know alot about them and the volvo is way out of my comfort zone but it will be a challenge for me then rewarding when its finally back on the road.

Stay tuned

Darrin

Hi guy's

Finally have the car home whoo hoo !

Apon further inspection there is a bit more missing than previously thought

The car is a 98 v70R manual.

Right hand drive !!

VIN YV1LW5003W2429514

So I need some advise, I have read that the T5 and the R share the same engine apart from turbo? it may be worth while for me to find a T5 or a 2.4T and use components off them.

The head has been removed and the plate holding the cams in place has also has been removed, I will send it off to a head specialist and get it checked out.

A quick check confirms I'm missing the distributor although I have the spark plug leads ,cap and rotor button  also the thermostat and housing is not to be found. To my disbelief the turbo has been completely disassembled....

To help me chase up the bits, what is the same and what is different on the following parts between the R,T5 and 2.4T.

Here is what I will need to chase up.

#Radiator Manual (Probably new as I've never seen a manual T5 or a 2.4T in Aus)

#Intercooler

#Bolt on radiator support panel

#Is there an oil cooler for the engine ?

#Distributor

#Thermostat and housing

Regards Daz

all the same for any turbo car from 93-98 minus the rad panel thats the same from 98-00

#Radiator Manual - you can use a auto or a manual doesnt matter

#Intercooler - same from 93=00

#Bolt on radiator support panel 98-000

#Is there an oil cooler for the engine ? 98 and older built into the rad 99+ on the oil pan on the back of the motor

#Distributor - local parts store

#Thermostat and housing - same from 93-01

Nope. There really isn't anything different engine wise to a T5, except for the turbo and ECU. If your turbo is missing that might get expensive, 18T is kinda rare and often expensive to get hold of. If it's just been taken apart, you could have a turbo rebuilder rebuild (as long as they have a dynamic balancing machine, thats the point really, so when they put the main shaft components back together they are in balance).
