I'm just thinking here, but i think you need to clear the engine mount by at least some amount, or when the engine tilts under acceleration you could hit the mount with it? Dont have a good visual of the whole situation though, but an engine doesnt sit as still when you're driving it as when you're standing still :(

I was looking forward to the results of that turbo :( bummer

as Eric mentioned earlier, the Super 16G, that is what I am going to be looking for next.

Jan, you know how excited I was about this, just didn't work.

O well, time to sell everything and just get an internally gated super 16G, NX wet kit, and Civinco. :(

Joseph how long have you been working on this!?!?!! I say snap pics of the problem throw it up on every message board (tbricks, bimmer forums, supra E/T/C) some one somewhere has to have a good idea. I say don't give up yet

You're talking about the rear hydraulic mount, correct? Why not have a regular style low profile mount machined by someone and possibly have it fitted into a slightly different place if necessary. People make custom motor mounts all the time for crazy engine swaps, so I don't think it would be that big of a deal.

Note though that you only need the 16G center cartridge, both wheels, and the compressor housing. you would be using the wastegate and turbine housing off a 87-89 Volvo 740 (the one with the TD05-12B-- but not *all* 740s from these years had them, roughly half did... The others got TD04-13C).

That is, unless you want to have an adapter plate fabricated to go to the regular Mitsubishi turbine flange... Though it would be much cleaner to use the Volvo housing and probably much cheaper as well (also, it has the conical 15G downpipe flange-- which was used on all RWD Volvo turbo cars).

You may want to talk to Unce Infector (I think that's his name on Tbricks and AIM... Though his Tbricks name might be Infector 944), as I think he's running a 16G on his 940, so he'll know the best way to mate it to a Volvo turbo manifold flange.

Hope this works out... The best part is, there is a pretty long line of upgrades for those turbos, though I'm not sure which can be used with a standard TD05 turbine housing. You could probably at the worst have a hybrid turbo balanced, with a standard TD05 turbine wheel and a bigger compressor. It's probably not going to be as good as a T3/T04, but it's better than staying in the Volvo turbo family for sure.

Best of luck.

Actually, here is a link for you:

Also:

And if you search for 16G, there are a couple more threads... Obviously Unce is the man you want to be talking to though, and I didn't know about the milling of the turbine housing, but that shouldn't be tough or expensive.
