kibim very true... while many people follow a religion they may not know what they truely follow causing the general population some unhappiness.

My religion goes like this... help people and treat people who deserve respect with respect.

Religion is a very bad word used to betoken the relationship between man and God. It's a relationship, how can you doccument it? It's like writing a wedding manual ... it's going to be different for everyone.

I have no problem with religion in school if they teach all religion.  I mean lets face it.  Religion is like mythology, or history more than anything else.  Does anyone really believe Jesus rose from the dead?

i agree totally. its a different situation when all of the religions are being taught.

p.s. this is the first time i have ever posted something political, and i really like the way we can discuss this so maturely

t-bone!!!

T, yeah it is amazing how the mature ones on the forum can actually have discussions :) Then some of the other folk mess it all up.

Myself... I have been in catholic school all my life. Since pre-school. Do I feel closer to god? HAHA no. If anything I have grown tired (as you may have noticed) of the way the catholic (not christian) church has handled many things; such as the outward discrimination of happy(g to the a y) couples, and the whole priest with the little guys thing. I am not happy... therefore I have no right to say what people who are not hetero can and can't do. I just don't get where the church even got the whole no happy marriage thing. My guess is it was after vatican II, when they decided to change many things such as the whole fasting on friday (no meat, it used to be fast... period.). It is sad but I see a growing number of people my age (18-19) who are turning away from their so-called religions(mostly catholicism) because of the things that have gone on in the (catholic) church.

I do find it hard to believe that there is a god, but that said I do plan on sending my children to catholic school. Granted education is what you make it, I do believe I got a better education in catholic schools (albeit religion is a worthless class).

Chuck, sadly people do believe that jesus rose from the dead :( devout christian people do. They are usually the "my religion is better than yours, you are going to hell" types. And that is what turns me off from organized religion. No one person(or religion) is better than anyone else ('s).

Sorry if I bored you guys on that haha, thats what catholic schools do to you for 14 years. Hahaha

I was rasied in a southern baptist church and family. My parents and church leaders just taught us to know the difference between right and wrong and for every action there are repercusions both good and bad. At home I had rules and the rules had to be followed, if not you did get punished. I served beside men and women of various ethnic backgrounds and religions. They worshipped their God in their own way I worshipped my God in my own way. There were times in some missions we couldnt let some people of certain religions stop and pray (so they usually just said the prayer to themself) because it would be detramental to what we were trying to do.

I do think this nation was founded on Christian morals and principles, I do not think there should be a State religion, but I do NOT see the harm in teaching AMERICAN citizens the TRUE history of this nation! As an American citizen you have certain duties that must be performed. Freedom is not FREE! Many men and women have paid for freedom in blood for this nation and others. People from all over the world come here to escape persecution. Thas fine well and good, but a citizen of the United States should know her true history, and the Christian moral foundations on which it was founded. I would never force my religion on someone. In school we are sent there to learn, what is the harm in saying hey this is the stuff this country was founded upon. Should students in public school have to be made to say a prayer or read from the Bible? no, but if a school allows a "quote of the day" then the Bible is fair game to be quoted. In public schools, I do think a moment of silence is in order for students, they can sit there and pray if the want to who ever God they worship or they can act maturely and sit there quietly. SHould students say the Pledge of Allegance? HELL YES!!! they are citizens of this country, and even if they are a "minor" they are still citizens and have responcabilities to fufill. like respecting the men and women who died to protect and preserve that flag. The worlds ,"One nation under God" should not be left out. they dont specify which God.

This is our Pledge of Allegence as American Citizens. If you want to live here great, but know there are beliefs that run deep in American history that will never be shed lightly.

People say the school system went to hell when they took religion out of the classroom. I think a lot of that has to do with the parents using schools as day cares while they are at work and kids just happen to get an education in the process. Respect, religion, and evrything else starts at the home.

Alert Einstein once said the more he studied the universe the more he belived in a higher power.

How bad can hell really be? Me, all my friends, no biblethumpers...

Actually most of the church people I know are also the least moral people I know.

LOL. Hell is just a great concept. Very medieval in nature. Southern baptist you say. One of my favorite friends is SB. His preacher told me if I was not saved before I died I would go to hell. So I pointed out SB is a very new religion. He said so. I guess all of historys great leaders are burning in hell. I have a real problem with the christen religion. Its well known its the biggest business in the world. The pope tells Africa birth control is evil. Thats my favorite one. If there is a god, I'm gonna let you in on a secret. He has a sense or humor. Look at us, trust me he has a sick sense of humor. Historically religion was a way to control the masses. People say the lack or religion is whats causing this country to spiral down. Its not the lack of religion, its the lack or belief thats causing it. Faith is one thing. Faith is pure and untainted. No matter what you put your faith in, its yours and its pure. ORGANIZED religion is the dark spot on modern society. We need less emphasis on religion and more on faith. So no matter what you believe in, be the person you would want your kids to look up to. Thats far more important than anything else in this world.

/em pops a squat on the orginized scriptures of the world.

Their just books guys. Great masterpieces, but still just paper and glue.

Save me a seat Charles, I said I was rasied SB I never said anything about the present. Organized religion I dont really care for. I was taught each relationship with God (whomever he maybe to whomever) is personal and one-on-one. I have asked preachers in the past to show me where in the Bible it says I will burn in hell if i dont go to Church. Not one has yet to be able to do that

Hehe, don't get christianity and catholocism mixed up... the true root of christianity is monotheism. It is for the most part the branches of christianity that blow things way out of proportion... at the moment Im thinking catholics. hahaha :)

I agree, hedonism is in no way harmful to others and in my eyes is not wrong. Now when the pleasure of yourself gets out of hand and hurts others, well then it is wrong. But that doesn't really happen that much. So I say were all destined for something be it the ground or the sky. Do what you want now because you will never have another chance.

sex and drugs and rock & roll anyone?

God isnt just going to reach down and smite you to prove he is there, he has nothing to prove..... (not to be a "Bible Thumper") he merely knocks on the door and if u wanna let him in then you, if not, dont answer the door^^. Theres nothing wrong with sharing your faith with others, imposing or forcing is another matter no one wants to be forced to do anything.

The way i share my faith is not always "thumping a bible" its by sharing the way my life changed when i became a beliver in christ....and no im no better than anyone else in the entire world....so please dont lump us all into a catagory of "biblethumping Guilt tripping moneygrubbers" there are many exceptions :)

Actually most of the church people I know are also the least moral people I know.

I will certainly concur with that.

I was fortunate enough to go to a very good Private School. While the school itself was affiliated with the Episcipal church it had no limitations upon who could attend. We did have a weekly chapel service but very few times did we actually have religious activities. We were required to take courses on the bible and christianity but we also had to take course on all other religions too.

To me the people that fight for religion to be taught in school are only fighting because they want only THEIR religion to be taught. If you told them that teaching Christianity also meant teaching Islam or Hindu they would rather have nothing.

It is exactly the same as seggrigation. When integration was tried many parents pulled their kids from school rather than allow them to be taught next to persons of Color.

In my book you can through out entirely the first four lines, move the fifth line to last and put no killing at the front. Then you have a good basis for a set of rules to live by.

Assuming you do not believe the god/clock theory here is how I usually defend my stance to people. If you believe in god, and god wanted me to be religious, he would have made me religious. In general I think to be a good person all you need to do it look out for your own, look out for others, and never cause others to have to look out for you. After that, its sex drugs and rock and roll. Just handle your business first.
