the underlørd
Isn't the tray suppose to fit on the bottom?I like your stereo, fits nicely with Volvo dash, without sticking out too much like many aftermarket units, what kind is it?you can put the tray whereever you want, and that looks like an ///Alpine to me. Big Will
I have the universal part from Best Buy (whatever brand they use) which looks fine to me in the car mated to the Pioneer HU I have. The only thing is the color is slightly off but I don't think it's noticeable unless you look for it.
Bing_0
guys, if you want your pocket to look more flush, instead of getting hte metra volvo pocket, or der metra turbo multi pocket, part number 88-00-9000. first screw on the arms that hold hte pocket in place, and then use the MEDIUM sized from trim ring, it fits perfectly almost against hte inner ledge. here is a picture of my pocket
steve s
Isn't the tray suppose to fit on the bottom?I like your stereo, fits nicely with Volvo dash, without sticking out too much like many aftermarket units, what kind is it?i guess, but i happened to like installing it on the bottom as i can semi secure it to the whole console and also have some access to the air controls..it's an alpine iva-d900... which i just found out is not compatible with alpine's ipod connector (where u can dial into the head unit to sort the ipod songs). works only with that 300 touch screen one and the newer 901. oh well. less thing to buy. it's connected to one of the auxilary rca inputs. works ok.. sound is a little wimpy. EMDII
I agree....My last deck was a midrange JVC. It had similar features to this kenwood but felt a little flimsy and lacked warmth in the sound. Post some picks tomorrow of your install.By the way, I just got a lesson in some of the great comic book artists of all time (from a friend at work).Your avitar is done by one of the artists he was talking about.Frazetta: I used this on my tanks when I was in US Army. Almost continuously displayed from 1975 to 1997.OEM tray fits 'best' on bottom. The recess is fitted for the tray that way, and it snaps into place. The radio rests nicely on the ribs, and the 'cage' secures properly into recesses in the Volvo 'hole'. Probably the simplest swapout I've ever done. Pics tonight. Gregg
The oem looks like it bows through the middle a bit. It doesn't look as solid as the metra.the OEM only bows if the cage for the radio is not put in correctly - meaning that the lip on the cage needs to be in front of the lip on the pocket. Explained:The oem pocket has one side with a bit of a "lip" on it. This would normally fit fine against an oem single-din radio. However, by introducing a mounting cage for aftermarkt single-din radios in our cars, it creates a bit of space issue. So, to fix this bowing that occurs, mount the cage and snap the oem pocket into place (top or bottom doesn't matter, as long as the lip on the pocket is touching the radio cage). Now use a small flathead screwdriver and carefully pry the small lip, on the metal cage, and make it so that it is in front of the lip on the oem pocket. Once you do this, you'll notice that the oem pocket does not bow anymore (picture below)-here you can see that the small lip on the metal mounting cage is just in front of the larger plastic lip on the oem pocket. Although the mounting cage is bowed a little on the bottom, it is completely not noticeable once the trim ring is installed back around the headunit (i painted mine and it's drying right now - will have finished pic up soon). All in all, so far, the oem pocket is the best I've used. I had two different pockets installed prior to this one, and those always seemed to rattle/make noise, or worse yet, the front cover would break off (happened on both). As stated earlier, the oem pocket doesn't have a removable front cover to break off, and it seems to fill the opening much better than the other universal pockets. This cosmetic "upgrade" is a no-brainer IMO.

exexpat
I would still ding you 3 points for no texture matching , though the gaps are nice. I think the factory one is a little nicer and I assume you don't see the "teeth" (see EMDII's photo) along the top edge without super close-up camera and flash. Bing_0
Darn! how many points did i start off with? if i were that picky about my own install, i prolly still would be working on it b

ALL is rock solid when you lock the cage into the dash recesses that appear intentionally located to facilitate HU installs. The falsh and macro can see taht gap incredibly well. In practice, you notice nothing.exex- gotta love that Simpson's sendup! Man you are slammed! :D
