How much torque can the aw55-50 transmission handle? I have heard 350ftlb before, is this true?

Jompa (who works at BSR) usually uses their program of upgrades as a guide line for that a complete setup will handle long term...

their stage 1 for V70 T5 is about 390Nm for the automatic. I have no clue how much it would handle with state of the art oil and a good oil cooler...

As Torpis mentioned, the durability of an auto tranny much depends on how it's treated. Using an oil cooler is a good start because once the oil is burned once, the tranny will slip and after that it's often "point of no return" where the tranny will never function well again regardless how many times you change the oil and clean the tranny.

Torque spikes whilst shifting gears in combination with overheated oil often destroys the tranny for good.

Torpis also mentioned that swedes never run autos in combination with powerful engines and the reason(s) are simple;

1. The auto tranny can't cope with real power

2. The manual version can cope with some serious power levels

..so why bother using the auto really?

I saw another question regarding the VVT and as you know the VVT is primarily used to achieve decent low end characteristics and low emissions but as you intend to run +400 bhp's you have sort of already moved away from the idea to have perfect low end performance...

Rolling Eyes is the auto to manual a common swap?....... i get it might not be common do to there probly been a big verity of manuals in swed, but for those few that have an auto and wish to make it in to a manual, is it done? or do they just junk the car and buy a manual? lol.

Don't know about Sweeden, but in Croatia auto tranny's are very rare, not on Volvo cars only. So, if anyone want's to buy an auto, he surely don't want to swap to manual.

Torpis, what can you do to my car for 10,000$ including shipping?

I emaild you. That would give you pretty much a complete engine with gearbox setup modified to do 450hp.

sent you an e-mail back with tons of questions

will see if it can be done if the questions are all answered!

btw one thing i forgot to ask...the engine...is it brand new?

it is not brand new, but all moveing parts are changed, cams are adjusted to the right gap, all bearings are changed, cylinders are honed, new timeing belt, new rods and so on, it will be like brand new. just the "outer shell" are re used. clutch will be a brand new Sachs racing assembly...
