Aj_T
Hello fellas so i recently bought a 2004 Volvo xc90 with the T6 motor. I drive a Mustang I've been restoring and decided its only going to be a summer car form now on. I got the Volvo for 500 knowing it needed motor work. The car needed spark plugs, intake manifold gasket, oil change, and most importantly a water pump and timing belt. I replaced all these things with as well as the coolant tube coming off the thermostat housing since I broke it taking the timing belt cover off. The one thing I messed up on was the timing, i spun the camshafts. I didnt break any valves but now obviously I have to retime it. Firstly are the marking on the cover accurate enough? secondly they have to match the mark at the point when there is not play in it since it has variable valve timing right? Finally if i take of the covers on the other end which I am most likely going to do to view the cams how to they lines going across them have to be perfectly straight across, slightly turned left or right etc? Ihatespeedbumps
I made a video on the subject a few years ago, this should help. Procedure is on a 5cyl, but it's the same for a 6.
jonesg
I used that video 4 years ago when my buddy messed up the cam positions, we watched it before starting the cam seal job, so the extra markings came in handy.
