B5xxxT Block Crack Reasons Explained (or not?)

Recently a very reputable engine machinist published his video about all good known cylinder cracking issue

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enNZGvjc3SU

Translation in 1 sentence: MLS  head gaskets have a steel ring between layers 2:53 on video, that thickens the gasket for 13/100 mm. This creates extensive stress to cast iron part of the liner and stuff happens.

His advice is using the gasket that is equally thick (custom cnc made copper?)

The key question is what is high power.

im running 1.4 bar with original block(18t), custom tune etc,etc

IMO start dancing 1.8+ bar then you need block work.

High power =/= stock turbo.

570 on the crank, 2bar boost, 4k km and sleeve cracked :)

Yeah, that adds up!

I'm actually swapping an engine for a friend right now on his 2005 S60R. Still a stock K24, but the car is tuned and has a bunch of bolt-ons like an FMIC, 3" DP and full exhaust, Snabb intake, iPd OTE pipe, etc. and it's definitely cracked. Believe it or not, it was only running around 15 PSI. I'm interested to get the head off the old engine and see how bad it is. I decided he needs a 4T5 to replace that 4T4 junk. Should be dropping it in today.
