RobT5M
So I purchased a 2004 2.5t V70 over the weekend from a local friend/flvc member. 180k miles. The plan is for it to replace my 2018 S60 since the lease is up in May. This will be a family hauler / road trip vehicle and daily driver for myself. We have a fairly active lifestyle, either on the road a lot or in the outdoors, camping/kayaking/etc. and car shows so a V70 was the ideal solution. So I have a month to get it sorted and the way I want it. New project means fun times! Recent work done prior to purchase. Timing belt & Water pump kit. Oil change and trans flush. New TCV. AC vac and recharge. Planned repairs or maintenance. Full detail, inside and out. As you can see from the photos, it needs a good scrub all over, theres a good bit of paint transfer all around, some scratches, and a pretty dirty interior so thats first on the list. Replace driver side door Needs a new door, have one local I expect to pick up within the next couple weeks to replace the driver door with large dent. Replace Amplifier Amp is dead, so just have the one center speaker at the moment. A pillar trim refit Need clips to replace the exterior apillar trim. Pass rear window Need a new clip for the glass/window reg Planned projects. Fog Lights Because why not. light bar wiring for off road/long distance road trips Because we plan on camping a lot with this, and taking a good bit of multi state road trips, adding some extra lighting options is ideal. I have access to a ton of light bars free so will be installing something soon, need to figure out the roof basket/set up first. Double din with backup cam Need to research as I have no clue where to even start with this project on a P2. The v70 has the oe upgraded sound system with amplifier, so not sure if theres something special that needs done. If you have info on how to do this correctly, id love it, otherwise ill be digging through swedespeed im sure. WANG ALL THE THANGS Pulled a V70 spoiler from the junkyard over the weekend (lol didnt even have the car yet and already getting parts for it) So need to get it color matched and on the back. Will require drilling, and wiring. STUFF I AM LOOKING FOR AND WILL BUY IF YOU HAVE. Amplifier - need it for a *** I need to go get the HU number *** gimmie a couple hours to update this lol. ✔️ Fully black interior - I don't like tan. quiksilver
That driver's seat is absolutely disgusting. Get a nylon brush to put into a drill and go crazy with some leather cleaner.

After im done with the interior (ill likely pull all the seats and clean too), im having someone else come in and do it again haha. Also, ive seen some people use a "filler" for the leather cracks, any idea what this stuff is before I go posting/digging around?
RobT5M
Tossed a wiper arm on the back, looks like I need to diagnose why it no longer works next. Can hear the motor making noise, but no movement.

I don't think I would have been able to drive that car without wearing gloves.

I got in the car, slid over, to back it off the tow truck and instantly got black crap all over them from touching the wheel. So this morning, I got to work about an hour early to scrub the hell out of it. Also ordered a bunch of cleaning stuff off Amazon for 9AM delivery (and as of 10 till 10, im still waiting). Once I can get back out there around lunch time, ill take a pic of the current progress, but I went through a few towels trying to get the nasty off. Man at first glance I thought the wheel was supposed to be black and didn't think anything of it. 😂
RobT5M
Sorry for the delay it has been pouring here all day. So I scrubbed the steering wheel this morning for a good 30-40 minutes, then worked on the driver door panel and arm rest. Arm rest was pretty dark as well, I didnt take a photo of it when I just ran out to the car. Heading to the DMV tomorrow to get it registered and plated so we can start using it for baby shower gift hauling this weekend lol. So its Transformation Tuesday riiiiight??? Get a nylon brush to put into a drill and go crazy with some leather cleaner. Following up, bought a drill brush kit. Arrived late yesterday and got to use it real quick today along with some cleaner. UM WOW.... so after just a few minutes, the seat is already a few shades lighter. Brush got to dirty to continue, so went to the break room and cleaned them out. Going to order another white brush, and a couple for the carpet as well because it works so well. Also, Finally looked long enough at the radio to remember. HU-803. Anyone have tips for an aftermarket headunit replacement? Looking for a back up cam. The Amp is dead, so any good direct fit aftermarket units, or places to buy a working one cheapish. Thanks.
RobT5M
Done with the driver seat for now. Im having a delima, debating between finding a replacement, or refinishing this one. From what ive seen, to fill the cracks really isnt a whole lot of work, and I have other cars so even if it took longer or a whole weekend for the curing process it wouldnt be an inconvenience. Ok so yesterdays progress and this mornings quick work. Finished scrubbing the driver seat, its so much cleaner now and thats awesome. We'll see if im as "Done" as I say I am with cleaning because id love to really get into all the nooks at some point. Pulled the airbag/steering wheel off yesterday so I could replace the volume switch, as well as clean the back of the steering wheel. Made a quick jig with some wood on a work table and screwed the wheel down so I could clean the back, sides, and inside ring easier. Realized in order to swap the button, I didn't have to deconstruct the whole thing, and could have just popped a tiny flathead under it and popped it out, which is what I ended up doing in the end since there isnt a way to get to the buttons from the back like I hoped. Also pulled the super rusted out plate holder and ran it through the sand blaster, then realized I forgot to remove the rubber pieces, and ran it back through lol. Gave it to the paint guys here to just clear coat it over night, and ill toss it back on the car at some point today. With our crazy schedules lately, im really hoping to get a weekend with it or a full saturday/sunday so I can cut/polish out all the scratches and marks on the body then ill start working the dents out when I pull interior panels for cleaning. Also, Unless someone has some good boots (Shift and Ebrake) for sale im going to purchase some nice redline ones here in the next week or two, so at that point the center console will be coming out, mineaswell clean all of that area while im there. The amount of cleaning ive done so far, makes me happy that ive maintained the leather and interior in the S70 so well over the last decade, its crazy how dirty this vehicle is. After looking at the photos I just posted, I realized I got the airbag dirty.... so ill be going back over it later with some cleaner haha. I'm pretty impressed with these drill brushes honestly, got the one for carpet in yesterday so im waiting until I pull all the seats out to use it so I can shampoo/steam them at the same time. The misses Kia needs some interior love, so ill likely break out the brushes on her seats when I get the upholstery machine in as well before I go to town on the Volvo. As always, any tips/tricks, upgrades I should look for at the junkyard, things to do while doing things, are always accepted.
gilber33
The seat and steering wheel are significantly better. It is truly impressive how gross some people let their cars get. Like the PO was holding that steering wheel every day with it like that. Gross.

Agreed, it boggles my mind on how someone can let their car go like that. Hit a slight snag on the v70 which has kept me from doing much at the moment. Waiting on the lien release paperwork from the bank that the original owner had the vehicle financed through in 2008 to some in. Contacted the bank Tuesday for it, said they would mail it, so hoping "assuming" it should show up this week so I can go down and get it titled/registered. Needed it Saturday for our baby shower, but ended up just bringing 2 cars. I know everything is clear and im just waiting on the paperwork to come through, but I don't want to put to much time and effort into this until I have it in hand. Looking for a Ruby Red drivers door if anyone happens to find one within a 6hr drive of Orlando, so into Atlanta works too.
quiksilver
You're welcome for the cleaning suggestions. My steering wheel is clean, but I still am deep cleaning the shit out of it when I remove it.
