NJGreenBudd Still Rolling Wagons

I've been away a good while but the wagons keep rolling.

Still have the black 98 project good grief that I RN swapped many moons ago, still 18T and ARD Blue Tune(lol, works great?), currently 220,000 miles, 70k on the RN swap build. Sold it to my buddy for a few years, got hit at a light and sat due to bent tailgate. I got it back two years ago and swapped XC bumpers from my old nautic xc, did a bunch of regular work to it since but mostly just drive it.

My old nautic blue 98 xc died many years ago due to sibling neglect, she has been relegated to parts car. Still have pretty much whole thing but don't think it's worth fixing, probably take some parts off and scrap it soon.

I bought a 240 for a simpler Volvo experience and quite love the contrast between it and the V70. Did a cheap headlight change, B Cam, new exhaust, got 2 M47s in the garage with full swap kit ready.

Last two years I rebuilt my RX7 Turbo 2 again, added a 2nd Gen Cummins Dually and Crossfire Injection Corvette!! Still tinkering with motorcycles too.

I have a list of stuff to do to the V70, some routine maintenance, possible paint or at least dip, thinking about finally doing the M66 swap and big turbo build that I've been squirreling away parts for. It's an old car and shows, clear coat is falling off, a lot of quirks inside with doors, locks, windows,etc... But this thing still just runs, drives great and still hauls ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD, quite happy that it's held up to the test of time despite being used hard and put away wet regularly.

Anyways just wanted to say hi, been reading around lately and really glad to see some of the same guys still here, some coming back after a while like me, glad to see that you guys don't stop rolling.

JlYoddL.jpegHere is what it looked like when I got it back, pretty much the same. I have a photo of the smashed rear somewhere.

Bought some parts for the V70 recently, got a timing belt kit with water pump and all new clutch hydraulics for the M66 manual transmission swap. I ended up getting an 850 billet flywheel and Sachs 707 PP with ACT 3000204 disc (same disc I run on my RX7) but recently decided to run the 850R PP first instead of the 707. I'm having difficulty finding a shop who knows how to repin the flywheel for the 707 and I'd prefer not to hand file the bolt holes on the PP the way the Norwegians do, lol. granted I only talked to two but it's frustrating. The bigger factor is that I don't need the 707 yet with my current setup, but down the road once the built 2.3L and precision turbo are setup then I will swap to the 707 PP. I don't want a harder clutch than I need to get the swap on the road.

Some 240 action, found a 1992 auto out in Long Island for a grand, who knows how many miles, it's a bit rough but runs and drives great after a tune up and stuff. Got two M47 boxes and full swap kit to go in sooner than later. Would love to do B230FT, and probably will, but want to do sway bars and stuff first, handles so nice already in its own wallowing way. I really dig it though, very happy with the purchase. I rebuilt a turbo style exhaust, swapped in B Cam and did strut mounts and brakes on it, and the blower motor too uggg. I did the ghetto round light conversion, it's nothing fancy but it gave me the look I want and it's funny to see people who pick up on it, it really looks fine to me in person and gives much better light to boot, may not be for everyone but it's my car so that's cool.9gxQXIV.jpegh6o3eLZ.jpegkkc59Ah.jpegFa1HbQS.jpegUT1zlb7.jpegshBD48K.jpegOv3Ui11.jpegpzj2THc.jpegQiWs4hp.jpegeulU6vf.jpegG12C6bR.jpegOmKReMu.jpegHvAII68.jpegguXpbfV.jpegUHMiygD.jpegUPIRGLZ.jpeg

  • 2 weeks later...

So I have some stuff coming up, new drivers seat skin, P2 R steering wheel via Russian mod, coolant hoses, timing belt and waterpump, M66 swap, etc...I really want to Dyno the car now with the current setup, I'd hope for as close to 300whp as possible....I might do K24 swap with the manual on this LPT RN motor, but I might just go for the Precision turbo swap at the same time. I was planning on keeping the precision turbo for the2003 2.3L HPT motor build but I'm curious how the current 2002 2.4L LPT would hold up with gentle moderately safe tuning. I'd be curious to see what it would hold for daily use! Worse case is lose the motor and turbo, I have other motors.....

Bunch of pics of new parts, some work I've done lately and stuff.

Seat cover, R wheel, M66 parts including pedal set, shifter and cables from v50,

Here is a Clutch Net disc from my 1987 Mazda RX7 Turbo 2, fits perfectly on the M66 shaft.....hmmm got me thinkingazF0SGx.jpeg

Effort or aggressiveness? It's hydraulic so it won't be too hard to use.
I remember my Integra back in the day with like a 6 puck clutch, lightweight flywheel and upgraded pressure plate. It was a cable actuated... everyday was leg day in that car.

Both I suppose, I just don't want to go straight to the heaviest clutch combo possible. I prefer incremental modifications so I can tell the difference between parts and setups. The people I talked to who drive 707 equipped cars say they are hard for sure regardless of the hydraulics. We will see. I may go S60R disc or Sachs SD693 and save the ACT for the 707 too.

In 240 land we have a modified early iteration flat flywheel, cut for lh2.4 efi crank sensor, STS Machining helped me cut the wheel. Then LUK 240 Turbo clutch and PP. Got two M47, driveshaft, guibo, pedals, cross member, cables, etc ..from a fellow down in MD.OwsW7aw.jpegvPJWqhi.jpegh1wAZxq.jpeg

Just a tidbit, over the last few days I've really been enjoying the car in the cold weather, running very well and the AWD is amazing even with all season tires in these storms and salted roads. But I've been a bit "dissatisfied?" with the top end of the power and, it rips off the line and low to mid but doesn't carry on through mid to upper range. The 18T is by far the best turbo I've ran so far and really for public street use probably sufficient for most people but I've a inkling to push this LPT motor a bit more before swapping in the 2.3L down the road.

So anyway I just bought a K24 for $250, gonna grab some greens and have a go with it for a while, if I can I'd like to tune for 18-20psi and see how that goes, EBC might be on the list I've used and prefer the GReddy Protect B Spec 2 unit.

Debating using the stock k24 or doing a billet 6+6 hybrid wheel upgrade and milking the cover. Probably will do stock configuration first then the bigger compressor wheel. Again, I'm actively trying to get into an AWD Dyno shop now to see what the current setup makes before moving forward.

Why thank you, mostly junk but fun.

I did some grinding on the M66 case today to allow axle removal once in the vehicle. I got the general idea of shape and location from Lookforjoes old pics. Think it came out ok, we will see later I guess. I hand filed the edges to hopefully relieve stress.

Got the K24, feels great, no play at all going to try running as is, I did clean the compressor cover up a bit. Debating buying the hard lines or the stainless braided lines...

I test fit it on my 2003 T5 motor with Japanifold and stock waterline, I don't see any interference with the water line like when we did my buddies 98 T5 C70 K24 swap we had to bend that water pipe nipple out of the way. When I swap I'll do the water pipe too.

Also doing the new green injectors and 3.25ID MAF conversion at the same time.
