1998 V70R swap complete with issues

Well, after over a year and a half of the car being apart, the engine is in and runs great.  Now for the issues...  I'm getting codes 0050, 0051, and 005F.  They seem to all be related to the BCM and never came up before the swap.  The ABS unit works just fine but there seems to be an issue with the right front wheel speed sensor.  It works when it feels like it and the ABS unit works with all 4 wheels when it is giving the proper signal.  I imagine that I nicked it when putting the CV shaft back in or something.  The cruise is no longer working for some reason.  Might be related to the BCM issues.  Can I just get it programmed to the ECU and all will be well?  When I was looking these up initially, I thought it was Body Control Module instead of the Brake Control Module.  The other known codes are for an evap and secondary air, but it has had them since I got the car.  Also, the R angle gear has a larger diameter driveshaft connection, so it looks like I either need to hunt a viscous coupling or have a new custom shaft made.

98 ABS units dont need to be reprogrammed car to car, pull one from the JY or hit up MidwestABS.com for a replacement, if that is your issue.

Otherwise, check your wiring, super easy on the 98's to trace a tear somewhere.

If you're getting wheel speed sensor issues, start with the sensor itself (tho ive never seen one fail) and your wiring as you think you nicked it.

The saying goes, start with the cheapest/easiest fix first.
And checking your wiring (especially since you think thats the issue) is the cheapest/easiest.

As for your other codes, evap/sec air.
Start by checking to see if your pump is working (located under the battery).  This is a common issue this late in life.
Not sure what state you're in so im not sure your emission requirements but it is an easy thing to delete on the 98s.  Either with Tuning or using a diode.

I know what the SAS code is.  The whole motor and everything is missing because Montana doesn't have any sort of emissions testing.  I think the EVAP code is from the common J hose near the back.  I already have the hose to replace it.  I guess I need to find a schematic of the 2.4 LPT AWD and the V70R to find where the pinouts may differ.  Also, putting in the V70R cluster may help since it has the trip computer in it and the original doesn't.  The donor car was built 11/97 and the LPT was built in 01/98.  But for some reason the donor had a shorter prop shaft and larger diameter plunger/CV joints on the prop shaft.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update:  Cruise was just missing the vacuum line being hooked up and works just fine now.  I cleared the codes using the 850 phone app and I don't know how, but that seems to have solved the right rear ABS sensor issue.  Now I'm just down to the prop shaft, EVAP, and SAS delete.  I think that I'm just going to try and find an older viscous coupling so that I'm not making a custom prop shaft.   The one that I have is the serviceable kind and is in good shape.
