Grant on gun control

Grant your making yourself out to be a more and more left wing nut every day. Trying to make me/others out to be a right wing nut does not help your case. I do not carry two firearms. Thought most people who carry do. I carry extra mags. Why? Well its simple, mags fail. I also carry compacts that only hold 8+1. So I only have 17 rounds on me. As for armor I do not wear it. I said my co workers do. The only time I even considered it was when I was in Africa. Rwanda/DRC/Uganda can be unfriendly at times. Co-workers because lets see. I don't think anyone other then front desk personnel has not been to either Israel, Africa, or Iraq in the last 14 months. In the last month alone there have been two high profile cases where gunmen shot random people wearing NIJ vests. As an aside I carried AP before then. Kendall used to have a problem with me carrying also till there were a few cases late at night that changed her mind. Violent crime stats say 1 in 1000 will have a violent crime commited on them this year. That means 10 on this board. Firearm are like seat belts, fire alarms, and first aid kits. You hope you never need them, but you just never know what someone else is thinking. If your so Anti Grant remember that if you even need a cop. They carry so you should not call them for help. You should handle your own.

My family owns a Ford dealership. we have had a couple of instances of salesmen being car jacked, robbed etc. There is also a stigma around here that if you own a business you got $$$. we have A LOT of dumb people around here as well as a growing gang/drug problem

yeha i know it sounds weak but the gang problem in fairfax county has gotten obsurd in the past 2 or 3 years....cant wait till im 21 and can get a CCW. It also might help to add that i am for gun control in the right way. out of the criminals hand and into the common mans for personal safety. after all it is my 2nd right to arm bears!!!

well i have been shooting quite a few times because of a criminal justice class i am in and we get to use a few different hand guns. we also got to shoot swat team issued shotguns with the pistol grips, that was entertaining. what scores do you generally have to shoot to qualify or is it state by state basis?

There is no score any state unless you talking about the national law enforcement tests. And shotting from open carry is very different from CCW. Shooting "quite a few times" is no where near enough IMHO. People ask how long should they wait, I would say at the least to carry 10k rounds. You can get the CCW whenever you want but to carry you should have at the least a few formal classes, a few law classes, and 10k through the weapon your gonna use. You need to know how to draw, how to aquire, clear jams, and retreat in the very least. I knew a few who carry that I disarm very easy. Please dont be one of those shot with your own weapon.

well then by my calculations i have about 9k more rounds to go, many more training classes, A GUN. i have had the law classes. that is after all what the class is all about but i do agree that i MUST be educated and knowledgable to carry. what do you mean by open carry shooting compared to ccw though?

Charles does time in the infantry count toward experience

That time gives you good discipline but very little hand gun experience.(least the infantry I know about. Only the Officers get side arms and most of them are not highly trained in it's use) Especially in close quarters, that 18-21 foot range that has become so critical. Now with that said, Infantry training I'm sure has changed a lot especially with the street to street type fighting thats happening now.

we actually had a good deal of urban warfare settings to train in, much of my time was behind a SAW but we were a little different in the fact we all carried a sidearm. VERY much against the norms but there were times a pistol was all you had room for. for my 21st birthday my parents sent me to a shooting school in Texas. I;ve had a couple of more classes since then but I am a regular at our local range (mostly our cops and sherriff deputies there) I grew up shooting. I pray I never have to take another life again :( but I rather it be them than myself or a friend/family member.

Rich we had 3 officers in our company and thats it . 1 Capt and 2 Lts everyone else was a NCO or Private

You beat me to it. Handgun is a different beast. Which is lucky for me. I am lucky to group 4" at 100 meters with a rifle. At the same time I can do 4" at 30 meters with a pistol. I suck with a rifle is the short answer ><

Open carry is a typical duty holster or leg holster. Draw from there is not hampered or defeated by cloths. If you carry on a high ride with an un-tucked shirt you must sweep the shirt to draw. If you shoulder carry you have to make sure the weapon does not catch on a jacket pocket or button. If it does you better know what do do. If you carry a SA weapon you also have to worry about the safety and maybe even cocking it. Buy a plastic training dummy and try some drills with a friend. From 25 feet in a relaxed stance draw a weapon from concealment. You will be surprised how many times something goes wrong. Then think about if that were for real your now dead. Carrying does not make you any more or less safe. Its just a tool. IMHO hand to hand is gonna teach you a lot more and probably save your life more times out of ten. Picture yourself at an ATM and you turn around just in time to see a man at 5' charging you with a knife. Or your in your car and a man appears at the window. You are not going to have time to draw. Rich is right. I could type 1000s of pages here and not touch on half the material out there. So I guess if anyone wants to chat about this IM me.
