I'm guessing it will come out of my pocket. I've never heard of insurance covering a blown motor, but I may check that out. As for Samco, I think I'm getting a new hose.

I don't know if insurance could help cover it, but if you explained the circumstances to your agent in a "hypothetical" situation, maybe they could better assist you then I :P

Funny thing, i noticed my lower coolant hose pressed up against the transmission dipstick yesterday. Heat and such put a nice little groove in it.

Perhaps Samco doesn't think out their design as well as they should have. Testing it to hold the temps and pressures of the coolant isn't always enough.

I will post a pic as soon as I can get it off my camera.

Here's the deal. The motor is definitely shot... blown head gasket, warped head, and something you don't see every day, warped cylinder walls.    That sucker got HOT!! I've already spoken to Terry at VMS and a motor will be on it's way shortly.

if you find yourself in that situation, IMO turning off the car will seize the engine, i was taught to blast the heater all the way at full heat (not recirculated obviously :P ) as it sucks heat from the engine for this and keep your fingers crossed, this is in the case there is no coolant in the system. but shutting it off immediately the heat has no where to go causing metal warp and "bonding" , siezing the engine.................................

That works if your fan isnt working or your thermostat is shot, it doesnt do a thing if there isnt coolant in the system because its the coolant that transfers heat from the engine to the heater...so in this case he was monkeyed anyway :(
