Chris_R
Absolutely! Hand over heart - but usually only after resisting the STRONG URGE to salute. As I get older I'm not going to sweat the formality of being in uniform to render a proper salute for our National Anthem. Copied from http://www.sar.org/colors/flagetti.htm"During rendition of the National Anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the Flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, and hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain the position until the last note. When the Flag is not displayed, those present should face the music and act in the same manner they would if the Flag were displayed there."Oh, and it is proper etiquette to at least stand for another Country's anthem, even if they are visitors. Show a little respect. It is only by chance that you were born where you were. It's a small world afterall. It's a small world afterall. It's a SMAAAALL world afterall. It's a small, small world. :P
freeskier8585
well if you are going to get techinical.... you never render a hand salute, uncovered (indoors) or in civilian attire, only come to attention at these times and face the flag. it is only proper to salute when you are in uniform and covered

It is appropriate to render a hand salute indoors (uncovered) when reporting to a senior officer as ordered. But yes, I agree with you. It is just seldom that I'm indoors when I hear the Anthem. larryo108
Stand with hat off and right hand over my heart. I love at the NASCAR races when they say "Ladies and Gentleman. PLease rise and remove your hats for the national anthem." They have to tell us dumb rednecks.
VolvoT5
Aww.. you guys are so patriotic! I don't even know all the words to my national anthem and I've never had to sing or stand up for it either.
Jaxx
a little off topic, but have you guys seen that video of the girl forgetting the national anthem? the hockey game one...hand over heart... I do it for both my dad's and my mom's countries... Brazil and USA. If any where else, such as the olympics, I would mimic what anyone else would be doing, you never know, hand over heart in another's country may not mean respect. matt1122
I think we should change from hand over heart to face a country we are at war with and give them the finger. If it's a time of peace, we can face france.
