British Columbia - Volvo Of North Vancouver

Since I work there, i should give some input.

From my experience, the tech guys really know what they're doing. They all help one another to get the job done. They also power wash the engine bays to clean them up. (Not sure if this is a good idea, but the cars run after so i guess it's fine) Customer service is excellent. There are no 'dicks' at this dealership. They also have courtesy cars readily available if you need one.

A lady even complimented me on my work, saying she never saw the inside of her car so clean because i vacuumed it up so nicely.

I stopped taking my car to North Shore Volvo after the problems I experienced there. Previously, I had all my service done at Specialty Volvo. Specialty was a disaster for me -- in 4 years of taking my 854T to Specialty, there was not ONE service where everything was done as asked. Not ONE!

When Specialty lost their Volvo dealership (Volvo Canada pulled it) the service advisors and service manager from Specialty went to work for North Shore. I thought that perhaps under different management, things would be better. But the same sloppy service continued at North Shore. Despite this, both Specialty and North Shore Volvo whined and begged for an "exceptional" rating on the post-service customer feedback form. They said Volvo wouldn't accept anything else. But both dealers seemed to think the way to get this rating was to beg customers, NOT to do an exceptional job.

One example is particularly illustrative. My car died in rush hour traffic only a week after North Shore Volvo did a major service on my car. I had to leave the car blocking traffic at Granville and 15th since I was on my way to a business meeting at YVR with clients who had flown in from out of town specifically to meet with me. Of course, my car was towed, impounded, and I had to pay $145 to recover it. The cause? The clamp that fastens the main cable to the battery terminal was totally eaten through! There was nothing left of it. I checked my service records from Specialty and North Shore, and guess what -- every service record listed "checked battery" on the list of services performed. Do you think the connector clamp could corrode clear through in a week? Not a chance! When the mechanic I called to jump start my car at the impound lot removed the plastic cap that covering the battery terminal, it was chock full of corrosion. I doubt that the battery connectors had been examined in several years.

What do you think North Shore's service manager offered to do about this? Pay for my towing? Refund my money for services I paid for but that were not done? No! He offered to waive the labour charge on my next service. So I took the car back to them for the last time to get the free labour, but have never been back since, and I'll NEVER go back to them.

I've been going to Docksteader Volvo in Vancouver ever since. Docksteader Volvo has been much, much better than either Specialty or North Shore. Everything is fixed right the first time. This is a professionally run dealership.

Maybe I was unlucky -- every dealer makes mistakes from time to time. But based on my experience, if I was shopping for a new Volvo, and my only choice was to have it serviced by North Shore Volvo, I'd buy a different car instead just to avoid going back to North Shore.
