Well, I wonder if we could get enough people for a groupbuy? Even 5 units and we might be able to get a bit of a discount? I'm waiting for Mike to PM me back on possible pricing.

i can tune volvos. not using the stock ECU but then hey, why bother

This chimes right in with the EMS arguement vs somethign like Hondata. Of all people, Chris you should know whats involved with smogging car in this state. Unlike the older OBDI cars where you *might* get away with EMS, I honestly feel anything that disrupts OBDII's function (both as a diagonostic tool and for smog related reasons) is out of the question for the vast majority of member here. Further more, the majority of members (99.99999 %) have never actually dealt with EMS before.

Not to mention all the things that the ECU does besides just fuel and spark ;)

I would happily invest in the future to be able to do my own chip burning.

Well, if done right there should not be any issues with disrupting OBD-2. If all you want to change is the maps and some sensor lookup locations, it shouldn't be an issue. Proof of this is the chipped ECUs you can buy from any Volvo vendor - they are all "normal" as far as OBD-2 functions are concerned. Typically in the OS that is seperate routines and variables. As long as you don't overwrite them or delete them the ECU will be none the wiser.

Exactly why I want this to happen.

So slater, hows things moving along? What do we really need to get this going?

I am going to be testing the Nira Standalone System. Nira has tested these on me7 cars and have a function to where they had to check engine lights and it fooled me7 into thinking it was running normally. The thing is keeping this smog legal.

We need someone that is VERY well versed in reading assembly. Then we need someone to map out all of the inputs and outputs of the microprocessor. That will take some time since it's a tri-layer PCB.

Also what would help is someone who has modified other Motronic systems, as this will be very similar. VW, Audi, older Volvos, etc.

Too bad I don't have the money for something like Nira. I wouldn't even need the english manaul (good friend here who has an 850 is very fluent in Swedish, he grew up there) but alas, I don't have the mad cash laying around.

What if we could get a good price on a groupbuy?
