Socal
What was the name of the shop? I would be willing to drive to glendale for that price.
Guest DougK
Do you really need to unhook all the electrical items to weld there? That would take years!I like the fix though
r850glt
I am taking my car to body shop to repair broken hinge, do I need to remove any parts where he will weld hinge back on ? I will be removing fender tonight to get access to braket hinge mounts on. The hinge is still good just the mounting bracket is broken.
prasamin
i have the same problem...want to know about that place in Glendale.
r850glt
Got it fixed for $30, had to remove, headlight trim, fender, door & pulled away door rubber took about 30 minutes then had it welded. its good as new. No need to remove dash if your welder knows what he is doing.
beadgc23
I used lock washers on the outside - provides just enough pressure to hold the nut on t'other side. I used duct tape around my finger to manoever the nut (with a washer hot-glued to it) into place. Took me and a friend (mainly for removing the door) about 30 minutes. The silence is deafening!done...works like a charm...some notes/commentsfirst off, that repair needs to be pinned or even better hosted on the VS site...its that important IMOsecond, def use the magnet there's alot of debristhird, use the tape on the finger, another mustfourth, you will be stumped on how to hold the nut but never fear...Take an old wrench appropriate for your nut on the back side and cut it down nice and smallTape it to your finger and manuver your finger wrench over the nutThis is pretty much the only way to hold it tight enough to really get some torque on there w/o the nut spinningPICS Here you can see the repair of 2 bolts...to the left you can see the SMALL hole you have to work with to get to the back side of the boltshere you can see my wrench finger.... Keaton85
what the heck is with taking the fendor off anyway? i had mine break the other week and i deffinitly scared some chicks off due to this very disturbing noise haha... anyway i just took the door off, sanded the paint, held the braket close to the frame with a pry bar and then MIG welded it up... it takes about 20 mins and you have a very refreshing sound or well leck there of!!!This shouldnt cost you anything if you just take the door off yourself then have someone MIG weld it..... just my 2 cents

Nomar
TIG welding FTW I may try to MIG weld this piece myself...I just became the owner of a very nice 850 wagon with the popping driver's door and non-adjusting seatback...but the PO already had the new doorstay piece so I'll see what I can do this week.Nice site, BTW. First thing I searched for was exactly what I needed to know!

First thing I searched for was exactly what I needed to know!I'm in the same boat as you and had the popping issue on both doors on my new 855. Bolting is easier than it looks, and is the way to go because you have the possibility of melting electrical wires when you weld...bad for biz. I just did the bolt job just on the top for both driver and passenger and it works great (couldn't do bottom b/c my fingers are too short). Took me a little over an hour to do both and the doors are good as new. Instead of wrench finger, I just bent a wrench to fit behind the quarter panel, then just bent it back. The door comes off easy...just get a friend to help you get it back on!
