ehkewley
I know someone already posted about their 01 s40, but I just recieved my aftermarket equipment today, and nothing is working right.I purchased the same metra 70-9220 wiring kit that VS_UnderBoss reccomended. This kit however does not fit the wiring harness of my car. The plugs on the metra kit are too small. The volvo's plugs are both the same rectangular size. Also the V02158B scosche pocket adapter (that was said to work for my '01 s40) also does not fit. It's impossible to get the plastic piece to fit in. When I went to their website they had no model info for the '01 s40. I also checked the scosche website for the wiring harness. They gave me this linkhereBut it looks exactly the same as the metra wiring kit (one rectangle and one squarish looking kit) when the car has two big rectangles. Has anyone else had these problems? I searched the forums here, but have yet to find anything.???

Bing_0
as far as i know, the s40 should takt he same kit and harness that all 92 and up volvo take on...so it should fit fine, and i believe otehrs have used the same kit and harness to perform the install on their 40 esries.do you have a US spec car?can you take pictures of your dash for us? the dash opening and those harness you mentioned.b
ehkewley
Thanks for the quick reply!us spec car? not sure what that means. I believe it's a us model. I found another wiring harness that looks like it matches my hu exactly.. 2 rectangles (one grey one teal), however it's for a 2000 s80?harnessI had a digital camera, but it doesnt seem to work anymore. I'll see if I can borrow one for the dash pic.basically the dash is a double din hole with divider runners splitting it into a two-din setup. Bing_0
its not uncommon to have a few weird cars once in a while that is totall different than the rest of hte line up, if you think the s80 looks very similar, about hte only sure way to know is to order one and try it out...or hardwire it...but pics would help of the car and the harnessb
s40euro
As long as I know 2001 S40`s are PII cars and their wiring is different then the PI`s.I was going to change ny HU with a 2001 PII HU (It was cheaper then the 2000 one) and the dealer told me to purchase an additional adaptor. dragon17
I had the same problem with my S80. Wiring harnesses for Volvos are rather confusing. When I got my aftermarket HU installed, I had only one output from my car but two input rectangles (grey and green) in the wiring harness. I called up a local audio/video specialist place and they told me that it had to be reground and rewired. Afraid of breaking something myself, I just let the pros install it. Maybe you should also get a second opinion on this.
AnthonyR
You need the Metra 70-9221 I think. I just put a full system in my wife's 01 S40. It's the one for S80 99+. That should work, it should have a green plug. The link you posted looks like the correct one, but I have never really used scoshe, I'm a Metra guy myself. Guest Guest
Thanks I'll pick the metra harness up.Here is a shot I found, on ebay, that shows the back of my head unit. As for the dash, I am still working on finding a camera. Anthony, did you end up putting a pocket in the second din slot of your wife's S40? dragon17
Yes. Exactly the S80 wiring harness I used in my car. It can be seen (and purchased) here:http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BHA9221-Volvo-S80-...1QQcmdZViewItem
AnthonyR
I don't use a pocket in that car, I have a single din blank plate with a Kenwood Sirius reciever molded into it, so... Never tried the universal pocket.
dragon17
The pocket works better and is more durable. Is also more efficient if you want to remove the aftermarket HU and put back the stock unit.
Owned
Spend some time finding out why the pocket won't fit and modify it. Use a heatgun or strong hairdryer if you don't have a heat gun around. Also, bust out the xacto knife skills. You may have to remove a plastic nub here and there. You may have to heat a whole side and push it in or out. It varies from situation to situation though.
