Guest Guest
Bah, CJ, why no candy apple on the exhaust manifold? Will the powdercoat not be able to take the heat?Alex,I was hoping to Jet Hot coat the later manifold so it would have been a waste of money and I doubt the candy colros will take the exhaust heat. I will be pulling the pan off tomorrow to see all the damage done. I got most of it apart after my earlier post. I just couldn't help myself. I did post pics before. Guest 300+_T5R_855
The center cylinder must be the first in the oiling sequence. After it happened, I remember where it got wounded. I was low on oil and was full throttle on a right hand sweeper. What oil was left was on th side of the pan. Sucked the pan dry and ate the first thing in its path, apparently the center rod journal. hence the similarity..."That's what I was thinking too... Guest 300+_T5R_855
Accusump not needed when oil level correct.OK now we're getting somewhere. Engine out, sub-frame stripped and cleaned. I have decided not to powdercoat the sub-frame because of the rubber mounts pressed into it. I don't want to hassle removing them and replacing them. They are in good enough condition to continue using. I cleaned the sub-frame with mag wheel cleaner and it looks like new. I will likely paint it because some of the area under the battery tray is no longer plated and should be protected from further rust, but all in all it was amazing how clean it came out. Guest 300+_T5R_855
Thanks to all for the good remarks.Update 2:00 pm PSTThings are starting to pick up. A lot of cleaning. The transmission is next. I need to fix a broken bolt in the flywheel and get all of my motor mount brackets from the powder coater along with some other brackets tomorrow and I should be able to get the engine in the subframe. I am starting to get impatient.
